  • Joanna,

Also, I'm glad that she knows that it was Smashproof who "put it in her zone", but I am curious as to what the 40s they're talking about consist of. Can you actually buy malt liquor in NZ?

Folks, if you take the kids to see the Patricia Piccinini, take the opportunity to tell them about Swine Flu.

Impressions? I've been told by a friend who travels regularly to the states that malt liquor is definitely a Bad Thing.

I drank Sparks Malt Liquor as part of my Willamsburg-as-Disneyland tour. It was yucky.

  • Ian Dalziel,

Rusty's Aorta Aria - by The McCahono Set
    - hours of toe tapping fun for the young bolters, eh!

Rita Angus cooks in Chch as well - though the exhibition poster should carry a warning "Smoking may damage your 'art"...

Keeping it Kiwi - Tonight (5.30pm) marks the release of Jody (O) Lloyd's (Trillion, Dark Tower) excellent new CD Loops of Love and related exemplary art by muse Devika Bilimoria (Silvan Cafe, 320 Selwyn st - till May 13) - shame he lives in Melbourne now...

Lucky Ngila - just can't get away from those nifty power rings huh?
Hope the Green Lantern look is more the sparse Carmine Infantino or muscular Neal Adams rather than "nasal" Gil Kane and surely Green Arrow and Speedy must show up (even if only to overdose). Guess the Coldplay song Yellow won't be in the soundtrack ... whatever, nice to see the old Darby Street gang (RIU/ChaCha) doing great things - our own Guardians of the Galaxy!

I'll raise a glass to Steve and the Androidss tomorrow night from the Flat City - channelling Gresham nights...

  • Paul Litterick,

I cannot think of or find a McCahon that matches your description; but then, I am no McCahon expert. Most of his Muriwai works were made about 1973, and those that are not oils are usually acrylics. He also made drawings of French Bay in Titirangi , around about 1954-56; these are mostly gouaches. Most of his works in ink date from the 1940s and their subjects include the Otago Peninsula.

For a pleasant distraction on a Friday afteroon, you can browse or search the McCahon Database.

    before it gets positively "Mainstreet"

I wish 'It's Friday' wasn't filmed in such a characterless void of an apartment. It looks like the worst party ever.

Oh, I dunno: I like the concrete floor and spiral staircase, at least. Pop in a Stephen Banbury or two and it would be perfect for Urbis ca 2001.

in a New Zealand style. Instead of swimming pools and booty camps, it's filling the bathtub with ice and moving the furniture

Au contraire: in Wellington we have plenty of booty on motherfuckin' boats.

I wonder if the Green MPs will bother showing

and whether they'll bring their lanterns. The Arrow's gotta show, they're warmer up recognition over in Smallville right.

Gil Kane got better latterly I thought - when he'd paid his dues and could take things a stylised, almost abstract place.

    @ Simon Grigg
sadly it's the only age I've got
and I can't let a good pun go begging...
(needless to say I don't get out much these days
and where does that leave me - a play on Pig Out?)

I was gonna go with either :

H1N! - sounds like Heinie > ergo Buttocks > Buzzcocks
    (whoops stlll the age problem...)

or H1N1 - reminds me of Heintje
(oh I give up...) nice to hear from ya though

The lantern wouldn't approve I'm sure.

In brightest day, in darkest night,
No evil shall escape my sight
Let those who worship evil's might,
Beware my power... Green Lantern's light!

Sounds cool. If they do make a movie with Green Arrow in it... I plump for The Dark Knight Returns. Pity Clint Eastwood's too old to play Batman in it now though.

    Good god!

Also that thing with the girls in the vid... I'm all for girls being sexeh on my laptop screen but in this case the guys in the vid were just guys being ordinary people and the girls were being sexy. Too much contrast for it to look like anything other than objectification. Though that word looks more loaded than what I mean.

"And while you're at it pop Grand Prix's gig into your diary for next Friday (9th)."

Ok, that'd be Saturday 9th. Duh

And Andrew I believe you're playing support for them as well! A good week for the resurgent Cabana with The Phoenix Foundation, Don McGlashan and Grand Prix all in the space of 7 days. In fact ton ight's their 1st birthday gig with a certain Ian (now a Napier resident)Morris performing with his band.
