  • Tom Semmens,

I expect to see a mass exit of certain political journalists - Guyon Espiner (the gloating little shit) and Sean Plunket amongst the leaders of the charge - into fat pay packets as comms advisors with various National ministers.

  • Steve Barnes,

I've just spent my tax cut on a substantial gin and tonic.
I wonder how long before they roll JK.

SO, Goff or Cunliffe for Labour leader, then?

  • Stephen Judd,

    Key's speech.

I'm gonna puke. It's not the alcohol, it's the cliches.

    *blurk*

See, if it was alcohol, I'd feel better now.

  • Tom Semmens,

Actually, you know, its almost a bit of a relief to have the boot on the other foot now. After putting up with the pious hypocrisy of the right it's time for us to go get the Jon Stewart in us all from under the dusty tarp in the shed where it has been for the last nine years and start dishing it out to the right.

    Labour in 2011 starts now!

  • Caleb D'Anvers,

Wow, John Key's an awful public speaker. That speech was better than Sarah Palin's Katie Couric interview, but only marginally.

Nice to hear JK's supporters booing Helen Clark's name, too. What a class act the Nats are.

  • Deborah,

Listening to JK's speech now, over teh interwab (marvels of modern technology etc).

Do you think he might have had one or two drinks?

  • Steve Barnes,

    Key's speech.
Unsurprisingly underwhelming, uninspiring and smug. He ain't no Obama.

  • Danielle,

Our main strengths as a nation are food production and scenery? That went into the speech? On purpose?

  • Matthew Poole,

The Nat rump -well, my frellow citizens, who voted, one or the other, for that crew - I despise you.

"Vote for change: get a Cabinet of 20 with 500 years' political experience between them." About sums up National, really.

  • Paul Litterick,

New Zealand's assets (as checked by Mr Key)

    1. Food
    2. Scenery
    3. Ingenuity

He should be writing tourist guides, not running the country.

Goff and Mark Gosche will be president.

    Key's speech.

    Words like flexible,individual...fuck its started.

  • Caleb D'Anvers,

Yeah, and what was that he was saying about the Nats' party volunteers. That they worked violently, was it? Seriously, was that speech, like, on purpose?

Nice to know that good ol' Kiwi ingenuity and no. 8 wire will get us through in the end, though. Cracker!

  • Steve Barnes,

Visions of the future and memories of G.W. Bush. The fact that JK's people think he needs a ring of bodyguards at his own victory party sends a shiver up my spine.

  • Jackie Clark,

I am so farking depressed, and can only reiterate what my comrades here have said..........

How can so many people be so wrong?

    my thoughts exactly, steve.

Thank you Helen for all you have done for us.

and that, too. I wrote her an email this morning to thank her for doing so much for the education sector, and kindergarten teachers in particular. I also told her I wanted her to carry on being our great leader, but I guess that one wasn't to be.

Oh well. You takes the good with the bad. And that speech by Clark? AWESOME.

    yes, tussock

they say people deserve to get the government they vote for - good people, what do you say?

    YES

Unfortunately the good people lost tonight.Greed was the winner on the day.

    and YES

I remember what National was like last time. I remember why Labour got in nine years ago. And we have to go through this charade again? I'm with the people who want to just go to sleep and miss the next three years.....
Oh, and well done to Mikaere who got a goodly number of votes.

It's the Flight of the Concords modest PM speech. He captured it perfectly, except it's for real.

Sacha: ta. I've met enough right-wing people in NZ to know to that they aren't bad, or even stupid - I just don't want them in charge. If they can make me doubt that by doing great things, that would be neat.

I'm just not a very good hater, except for Winston Peters, because I am a harsh hater of haters.

  • Paul Litterick,

Only folk outside Labour think that Goff will be leader. He is not popular in the party.

Labour will skip its Lost Generation of people who left in the 80s and ignore former Rogernomes like Goff. It will be Cunliffe or Parker, probably the former.

  • Stephen Judd,

Paul: I am thinking now about joining a political party, for the first time in several years. I can tell you now that no party led by Goff will ever get my vote, let alone my labour, ever ever ever. Lyndon was worrying about the Nats taking dna samples from people who had not been convicted - Goff would be right behind that. He cannot be trusted to look after my freedom, and I'll be stockpiling ammunition before I work for his election to PM.

If Clark resigns, it's a by-election as she holds an electorate seat. Only if one of the list MPs goes would Tizard get in (I think). Graeme?
