From the Indymedia quote:
This was obvious in another article I got forwarded this morning from Bomber's blog. He was sniffing around last night at Unite and had cornered some less experienced activists and was asking them what was going on...
I saw on Indymedia last night that a Unite activist was among those arrested in Auckland. I'd be genuinely shocked if there was serious involvement from that quarter.
As someone quite rightly put it last night....'if not one talks, everyone walks'.
Yep, I find that pretty creepy ...

Smack in the face for the cops - Lockett has got bailed.
He seems to be the one about to wage war on NZThe intercepted communications certainly seem to enhance his reputation as a crazy person:
* "I'm training up to be a vicious, dangerous commando"
* "White men are going to die in this country"
* "I'm at war. I'm declaring war on this country very soon"
Meanwhile, Bomber is hinting darkly of more to come.

That said, I don't like the idea of armed militias roaming around in the forests, whether or not it's about protecting cash crops.
They could get up to mischief just in the forest, let alone any grandiose plans of whacking high level targets. A country of laws doesn't allow it.
If they threatened two kids out hunting, then I think that's police involvement right there.

Now, if only the Terrorism Suppression Act had actually created such powers...
I wondered about that.

Not read kiwiblog recently but I also wonder how the resident nut jobs there are feeling. I distinctly remember a post from Mr, Redbaiter calling for folks to take to the hills with guns and to defend their freedoms. Are they in all out support mode for those arrested?
There did seem to be a few of them demanding to know what all the fuss was ...
-
There's a few of nutters in the white supremist world and I'd be pretty worried if they were setting up military-styled training camps.
I see someone's picked up the God Squad angle.

Meanwhile, the Dom Post leads with a story whose headline and body seem to say different things. Were the bombs and guns found in the raids, or were the police just looking for them? Unhelpful.
-
that's exactly the criticism of the police being bandied about this morning.
rb is right. this case is interesting. and i think 'fishy'.
maybe it's a quota-mafia thing.
The Herald has an interview with a woman who was urged to join the "freedom fighters", and thought they were "out there and pretty mad".
Maybe it's all nothing to worry about, but assume for a moment that the police do actually have the surveillance evidence they say they have. How exactly should they proceed?

Oy... going Christmas shopping with the Brown-Rae household must be an experience. "I'm looking for something plausible in a deer hunting weapon that matches my eyes, and doesn't make the thighs look chunky." :) (Sorry, thought some wholly inappropriate levity was in order.
Oh god, bring on the levity. There's a part of me that thinks this is all totally awesome. News stories as Google puzzles can be fun.

Well, Howard Broad has been quite careful to caveat what he has been saying, and to refuse to answer where it might compromise his investigation, so he's in the clear. OTOH, given the cops are leaking the juicy sewer details to the media, as an institution they don't look so hot.
It's an interesting one, because in addition to quite concerted leaking, there's all this stuff sitting around on the internet: most notably the Trade Me records. And it looks like if I could be bothered to join findsomeone.co.nz I could go and check out cyber hori's profile there. Awesome.
Anyway, it's late. I think there is a small group of people that's been having crazy thoughts and, to judge by the Herald's teaser, acting out.
Quite how crazy those thoughts are, how close those thoughts are to being reality, and how appropriate the police response has been remains to be determined.
