Lovely monarch. Was that really a pohutukawa? The leaves look vaguely camellia.

I may have to use this one as a Christmas card some time... from Matiu/Somes Island, early this year.

Metrosideros kermadecensis, or the Kermadec pōhutukawa. Flowers at odd intervals all year. Right now it’s just rejuvenating from a spring flowering.

    Age before... Beauty.

Always. But still the urban pohutukawa has its virtues - here helping to rug-up a Wellington wheelchair-user in a strong tailwind.

    Colour on some old black.

    Some old cliché.

Feel like I've done this before. Twice.

    Different photo though, honest.

That lovely tree is frustratingly familiar! Or rather, the buildings next to it are... It's not on the Terrace is it? Maybe around the back of the buildings? I work very near the Terrace. There's a scrawny pohutukawa outside the building I work in, which flowers yellow. Never photographed it though.

Wakefield St, near Jervois Quay. That pohutukawa one of many cluttering up the triangular car-park beside the Michael Fowler Centre - here's another example of the mess they make of what would otherwise be a nice tidy car-park. These on 16Dec2008 ie three years ago almost to the day - check them out.

Can’t resist posting this. Something I noticed today – a rainbow flag making rainbow colours on a wall. Peace, love and kittens*.

This is a motion-blur accident of mine from September, where I was lifting the camera around to take a picture of a bird in a local quarry and hit the shutter button while moving the camera just fast enough to accidentally give a rice paper effect.

hehe Islander, here's a straight-legged blast of colour... I like to think the lighting is courtesy of my husband who was a sparky on this old tower. way back when.
