Capture: BDO - Post Hoc

  • Mark Thomas,

I was a little disappointed that they'd fenced off the lake. From looking at the BDO map beforehand, I'd hoped that we could sit by the water and listen to the music. I guess they'd have to install security in the water to catch punters swimming into the BDO without paying.

Good thinking. Still, how amazing would it be if they could open up the lakeside? It'd be almost as good as Splore

In spite of the fence, this is close. :-)

I meant to walk over and take a photo of the inflatable runabout. I was like 'what's that? Oh right. People might try to swim in.'

I gather the view was that New Zealanders might take this as a challenge.

    Tame Impala Balls

    Heh! Nice balls.

Were they doing some sort of broadcast on MTV? I wondered when I took the above.

    Also liked these mirror cubes.

  • Tristan,

The Hives frontman had real issues with those balls. He was pretty keen for the crowd view of him not to obstructed (the dude is so rock n roll)

I had my own grumble about MTV and their obstructionist practices. We had a good view of Pearl Jam from the terraces until they raised their platform and completely obscured it.

  • BlairMacca,

The Hives were awesome. I think if we can't have a laugh at our national Tolkein infatuation we aren't much of a country.

Retro hat vibe at Arcade Fire.

Incidentally, if Campbell Smith is reading this, where were all the coffee carts that once dotted the BDO, and provided that much-needed early evening pick-me-up?

  • JacksonP,

I’m all for a bit of Tolkeinism and eagle-itarianism. I just thought the guy went on…

    and on…

and on. As if he had more time to fill than songs to play. And I wanted to hear the songs, which were great, as you say.

It was the point I discovered I couldn’t get in the D with my rucksack, so I may have been carrying some baggage at the time.

  • Rich Lock,

The lead singer of the hives has a habit of this sort of thing, telling a crowd in Boston on Dec 5th (around eight months after the marathon bombings) that "this song’s for everyone in Boston. It’s about stuff blowing up. It’s called 'Tick Tick Boom."

Yeah, well that's just insensitive and inappropriate.

I was being ironic, FTR. I mean if we're not used to it by now, we will be after the next two years of endless shire-bolical references.
