  • Russell Brown,

Thanks for all your hard work guys, and thanks also to Matt Buchanan and his crew for going above-and-beyond to make Capture a special thing.

    Yay!

Thanks to you and Matt from us too Russell. Very happy with the result from our side.

Lots of posts planned before Christmas, including one this Friday on the musical front. You can never have too much Flying Nun love, right?

    Capture away!!!

ETA: Having a first time poster as an initial comment is exciting too! Welcome Phil. Hoping we can bring a few new eyes to the page.

  • Kebabette,

You've Captured my heart. Am stoked to see photos taking their rightful place on PA.

  • Robyn Gallagher,

I'm so excited to be involved with this! The template makes the photos look amazing at that size. Cheers to Public Address and Cactus Lab for getting it set up, and I'm really happy to be part of the PA whanau along with Jonathan and Jackson.

  • Alastair Thompson,

    Fantastic idea. Welcome.

That pic of Auckland Uni health and safety nightmare reminds me of Canterbury in 1987. Yoof of today may be a disgrace with regards to their drinking behaviour but nothing has really changed.

I have more in that series I might share later. There were people on every corner of the Quad hanging off the roof. It would be shut down in seconds now, for our own protection.

  • Joe Wylie,

A good thing you do here!

Those “Vinyl Records Are Coming Back” stories that keep appearing everywhere? Look out for “Film Is Making A Comeback” stories. They won’t be far away.

    Here's one.

Elsewhere, Alexander Petrosyan/Yan Petros/Petros. For me this guy is at the pointy end of photography.

  • Lilith __,

Oh, nice one, Jack!! And Robyn and Jonathan, yee haa!

The pics look great. What a neat thing for PA.

Jackson, I used to have a Canon G5 and now have a G9. A great series! :-) Powerful, but small enough to carry and use without fuss. My only real complaint is they can't take a polariser.

Great to see this initiative. And to see a beach i'm so familiar with on the first post (Whiritoa). Yay!

Excellent! Our fist photo reply. As a reward, I'll tell you about this attachment for the G9 which allows you to attach a polariser, although only under zoom, or else you get the corners cut off. I have one, but don't use it as much as I should.

I work in the photography department at Unitec and film is making a comeback. The tumbleweed has stopped rolling through the darkrooms, and students are coming brandishing their old Nikons and Mamiyas bought from Ebay and Trade Me. The students say they are getting bored with film.

    Neato.

I currently use a Fuji HS20, complete with HD video capability. I’ve fallen behind a bit on updating my own Photobucket gallery, so this might just provide some impetus.

I find darkrooms madly exciting. Even the nasty chemical fumes are madly exciting – they remind me of those magic times I’ve watched an image slowly appear and known it’s a good one.

Haven’t been in one in years, though…digital’s just too convenient.

  • Jackie Clark,

I have been lucky over the last few years to meet and befriend a fair number of PASers. None whose photos I like better than yours, though, Jackson.

Thanks Jackson. I had a vague idea there were adapters like that out there, but it's nice to hear of someone who actually uses one.

  • Lilith __, in reply to Karen Crisp,

Winding the film, exposing it, spooling it, developing, fixing, washing, sorting the negs, setting the enlarger, exposing the paper, developing, fixing, washing, hanging...such a long process with no guarantee you'll have anything much in the end, and so many things that can go wrong along the way. The surprise and delight when you do get something good; what a rush. I'm sure people will always do this, as people will always make woodcuts and engravings and lithographs, even though they've been superceded as means of mass reproduction. But I think the use of film and darkroom will continue to become rarer, and "real" prints will become a curiosity.

  • Karen Crisp, in reply to Lilith __,

Yes. It is not even _possible_ to produce an 'analogue' colour print here in New Zealand any more. And I have been buying my film from the US for quite a few years now. Seemed crazy to begin with, but has become normal now.
