In which case, I shall place an order. Hopefully he'll give the possums the bash.

Islander i would recommend a Maine Coon to anyone. Known for their loyalty to the one who loves them most (you) they will be friendly to other beings but will select their chosen one to spend most of their time. They are adorable little kittens , they turn into very handsome looking animals and do most of the grooming themselves. A lovely soft coat to pet and just a constant delight. The sound they make is like a short birdlike call as in 'brbrbr' when they meet you. Other than that, they are quiet.

Gudrun, I met a Maine Coon in New England nearly 20 years ago..I was very taken by it’s friendly but slightly aloof attitude to a visitor…I am so looking forward to being with a cat again, and especially such a noble animal. You have nicely reinforced my choice of companion!

Hebe,
My family has a new member: an 11-week-old light ginger spotted and striped with dark ginger male, provisionally called Oce (Ossy?), Leo or Titan until he tells us his name. Shows signs of being a genius; of course. This morning's score: my foot, a vase of flowers and the tv/dvd plugbox.

Moggies are not without risk.

Another Maine Coon trait is the seasonal variation in their coat. Here’s Odin in summer mode.
Edit: oops, sorry for the bad rotation. Is there any way to fix it?I am so going to get a Maine Coon when I head over the hill – they’re not great birders (which was what, among other virtues, attracted me to them) but they are death for rodents.
Odin does catch birds occasionally, though his favourite prey is insects – cicadas, crickets, and outdoor cockroaches. He hasn’t caught a lot of mice, possibly there aren’t many around here. He’s not a great climber, I think his size (he’s skinny and still weighs 7kg) and high centre of gravity due to his long legs makes him less agile than many cats. He’s a powerful jumper though.
Being show cats Maine Coons are bred for personality as well as looks and are generally extremely good natured. They are usually not lap cats, as their large size can make it difficult for them to get comfortable on a lap, but they love to be near you.

I am surprised no one else has commented on this photo, but EMMA WHAT IS YOUR CAT DOING TO THAT BARBIE DOLL?
This thread is awesome. Thanks Robyn.

I may not have a scanner, but I have links to youtube - Islander, this cat may not be a Maine Coon, but you might like this clip of a cat who is best pals with an owl.
When I was a kid my cat and dog were very friendly and non threatening to my half tame crow, though perhaps not quite this animatedly.

Thanks Dyan! I was just checking in to see how it was going and I'm pleased to see there's over 200 responses now. So many lovely cats.

I hope you note that I have resisted the dog photos……for if there is one that Ruby is not, it is a lover of cats. They're smaller than her, and thankfully when she encounters them, she's always on a leash. Ian and I are firmly of the belief that she was a birding dog on a Scottish estate, or a pig hunting dog, in a former life.

Cant access that from the link Dyan – but will from youtube – thanks!
(I've noted, over the years, that cats either shy away or will- if encouraged- make friends with predatory birds- I know of at least 2 who've cobbered up with magpies. -
Resemblances, we haz them.

Am I doing it wrong?
I imagine Hazel may have a feline opinion about who should be in that box.
