  • Islander, in reply to Christopher Dempsey,

<q> a cape were a flag, as a Christmas present for my parents. They loved it and flew it all summer... Carnival flags are fun.

I am the Flag Warden of the Okarito Free Republic (we have a full-sized flag-pole*
between me & my Naybore's** homes.) I Love Flags! I have - quite a few. I'd be interested in getting that flag-maker's contact details, if she so consents?

*Ex-FJG PO if you're that interested (the local cop never was.)
**My Naybore - and long-term friend - & her family, have contributed many extraordinary flags over the years. The whitebait flag of the OFR would make a vexillologist grin with delight. The "Holy Flaming Arseholes Martha!" one would require a wee bit of local knowledge...

Only in Bangkok... (I'll join Islander in the drooling).

So: I'm just about out of chilli. I think I prefer #6 to my #2. Market, Barcelona, 7/9/2011

Just on tip-toe as far as can recall. They were lovely - they gave me a bottle of water because they said I looked hot (it was mid 30s).

I thought of them several times when the protests went bad just a few days later, and then again six weeks after that.

  • Jackie Clark,

What a fascinatingly well travelled lot you are. Looking at Simon's dad's slides reminds me that Dad had thousands too, and i had forgotten all about how often we would look at them, and he would get the revolving projector out. Mostly because loads of them were of him and his (dead) 2nd wife, and so my 3 older siblings were able to get a sense of her, and their life together. Which sounds a little weird when I put it like that. But it was what it was.
