I would love to post wintery pix but there was a pohutukawa starting to flower on the way in to New Plymouth this morning! It's not as though we've been short of wintry weather either.

Ours is flowering too. It's probably a Kermadec Pohutakawa like ours, which flowers several times a year.

Without the spotlights the light in there was weird – doing strange things to people.
Cheers Nora.
I used my bigger top-mounted flash, and managed to get the skaters relatively sharp, while the background movement and lights made it interesting. Was very experimental, TBH. Not something I've done before. But fun.

The last Canterbury snow was rather nice...
Wonderful shot, thanks Gareth.

Wow, that looks like a Thunderbirds base! The roof folds back and a rocket comes out...

Concert promoter Phil Sprey hosted a very successful temporary rink roughly 10 years ago in Wellington's Waitangi Park.
Not long after, a proposal for a permanent rink followed. Unfortunately that fell through after the council and the developer (Welly Indoor Sports) couldn't agree on how to foot the bill, despite popular demand.

<sigh> Wish we could have one of these in central Chch.
The informal ice-rink we had on the front steps and (steeply sloping) driveway a few weeks back isn't the same thing at all!
I thought of that when I read the words "nutcracker on ice" -- sounds like a horrific accident. :-)
But the Ice Stars are amazing, and the photos are lovely. -

Thanks Lilith, and all.

That's more than just cool, it's ice cold.
Boom boom!

Anyone got the musical reference yet?
It is Friday after all.

Ohhh, now I get it. ;-)
I actually like the slightly blurred Ice Stars best - they look speedy and glamorous.

PS you know they're singing about this?

The kids here in Christchurch meet after nine pm and work hard achieving top ranking.
Thanks Gudrun. Love to see all this action.
Anyone at the Queenstown Winter festival?
