As seen on the desert road, extreme mowing...

My, how your garden has grown. That hill might take a bit of work though.

    Click crush...

Ian you might have stopped and joined in the festive spirit.

we were on a weighty mission
    with time constraints...
I did enjoy the inaugural lantern festival in Chch
in Victoria square, but this one with a reported
40,000 strong crowd*, shudder, not for me....

*even if they weren't all there at the same time
I'm always in the wrong place amidst teeming humanity
    less stressful to avoid...
(CCC demonstration was a rare exception...)

There are also pisswackers, supposedly the silent females that pee on you when you pick them up.

Thanks Joe, I'm so glad I joined this little community... stuff like this ain't in the handbook for Kiwis in Oz.

  • Gudrun Gisela,

Now u tell me Ian. Must go through those snaps i took to find the Elusive One. The best thing about the festival : It was rather dark later on and one could just mingle unnoticed.

Well, what with Crafar Farms decisions and Mojo matters, I stopped briefly at Potters Park today, and many an Aucklander will recall, it rained again.
With my new interest in birds, I spent a few minutes in the rain to capture the pigeons in the park. So in keeping with my roamin' and bird roamin' theme
    Voila!

-except kereru dont - often. I've seen several of them intent on killing my apple tree & my poor kowhai, all at once - but they move off individually.
Especially if I am shooting them...

They are beautiful beautiful birds, greedy as all get out* and my olds were not wrong in esteeming them...like weka...like titi-
*they're getting to the end of their breeding season and their rape of my lovely trees is partially to provide nourishment for their chicks-

Indeed. One thing I loved about Dunedin is seeing so many more kereru than I had been used to.

You are welcome Chris. I am enjoying an interesting interaction with looking at the different types of birds and it's fun to share them.I have found the click of the camera peaks their interest.

  • Ian Dalziel,

    What's wrong with this picture...
a random 'snapshot' mystery for an open thread...
I saw this story on The Herald's site this morning, and was mystified by the obvious disconnect of facts (or revelation of time travelling thieves!)...

The Sun newspaper reported that the workers found a vault with hundreds of safety deposit boxes in the basement of the building in Manchester.
The boxes reportedly date back to 1935 when the site was used by the Midland Bank.
The Bank of England could not locate the owners and arranged for a drill to break open the boxes. Inside was jewellery, gold, a gun and master tapes by British bands Joy Division and New Order, all of which have been sent to the Treasury.

    !!!????
Well it was reported by The Sun...

I heard about that too. Always thought they were ahead of their time.

Stephen Morris mentioned the difficulty they had in finding some of their masters when they did their latest 'Best Of' releases. (95bFM interview available here).

    Nek minnit...

What's the Treasury going to do with them? Melt them down to see if they're gold?

    Just another Oliver diver story.

Ian had a little holiday recently, and he says thankyou to everyone who was so kind to me. This photo was taken on day 2 of his little sojourn, and as you can see, he had gone from being very very ill, to being very glad to be alive.
