Today at Cheltenham/North Head. Some boats:
Pic 1: A classic old dude in what appears to be an actual jolly old longboat. He rowed off in the general direction of Rangitoto, shown behind.
Pic 2: A minute later, something that would give me pause on crossing that straight with only 50cm of freeboard (or none at all like the lady with the paddle). The Quickcat, a triple decker ferry, shown for perspective makes it look huge...
Pic 3: ...Until you see what's currently docked at Prince's Wharf, the same Quickcat can just be seen at its waterline. The Cloud just makes the first row of open decks, and the wing on top seems to be touching the Ponsonby Post Office at the top of College Hill. I'm looking down on this from North Head.
Also, sailing ships reaching for home to the stiff Northerly, and Devonport in the foreground, sheltered as always. Oh, and my silly little town, replete with Skypodermic, and Vero with seat half-lifted. -
Hmm...longboat and no life-jacket.

Love those shots. Reminds me so much of those early days in the Bay of Islands. Fishing for snapper, swimming in warm water and getting to know sand flies.

South beach at Piha on New Year's Day, with bonus lifeguard (who appears to be about twelve years old, dear lord). It was just starting to get busy and the sand was almost non-walkable-in-bare-feet as we left, at 11am.

There's nobody in the water beyond about 10m out! I guess all the surfies were still to hungover too get up. Might explain why the child lifeguard is on duty.

A friends mum (94) passed away a fortnight ago and this Hoya was hers . I was kindly given it for my birthday also. I felt very privileged.

We lead good lives it seems...
Some nostalgia, came upon my old bakelite viewmaster. I instantly remembered every 3d image. There was a camera that took viewmaster 3D transparencies and you could make your own reels, how cool would that be.
My 1950's one with a 1960's one -

What a coincidence. We have had my mother's Hoya growing in our porch since she died 7 or so years ago. It thrives on inattention (unlike my mother!). We also have her enormous Staghorn Fern clinging to the flowering cherry. Maybe I should get the camera out..

Great images, everyone. Michael Jeans' Fish & Chip shop had that wow factor, amongst so many others ... and I've been hanging around waiting to get the photos back from the chemist.
Anyway here's two from Victoria Park environs ...
1. Double / triple / might have been a quadruple exposure.
2. Under the flyover, so does that make this the flyunder? -

Your Oxalis seems nicely bug-eyed in its symmetry! Here's another similarly furled up tightly after drizzly rain. I get the impression they open and furl in response to light levels rather than the rain itself. This will bear double-clicking for the refracted images of the background in the droplet lenses.

We have had my mother's Hoya growing in our porch since she died 7 or so years ago. It thrives on inattention (unlike my mother!).
Seems to be true - hoyas flourish and flower in conditions that would leave other houseplants hopelessly rootbound. IMHE they take several seasons to regain their previous happy state after overgenerous repotting.
BTW the Cuningham House conservatory in the Chch Botanic Gardens - fortunately recovered from the quakes - has a great hoya collection, with strikingly unusual varieties.
