They're gorgeous. Are you using "water lilies" in a strictly botanical/taxonomic sense? While I'm no expert, I've always been intrigued by the idea of convergent evolution, so I was interested to discover a while back that the "true lotuses" are more closely related to proteas and plane trees than they are to water lilies.

I'm guessing mostly based on petal shape (lotus flower petals are wider & more rounded, water lilies more pointy) but I'm no expert.

I love the flowers of the quince almost more than I do the bountiful fruit...

And then there's the plum: in this case, a tree planted a century ago, probably Pruneau d'Agen and parent to many of the wild plums in the valley.
