When I was writing Hot Topic, I dropped a few oblique references to pop music into the text, which my editor duly removed. Except for the one he didn't spot, a reference in the preface to the way that earth observation satellites allow our senses to work overtime when monitoring the planet and its climate system... ;-)
You should see what Partridge is up to with Peter Blegvad. I've declared that this is the theme tune for my latest book...

I spotted a Little Drummer boy installation in the CBD Red Zone Christchurch at lunchtime today. More pics on my Flickr.

Since I know you all love cats. My new camera, first time in my life I've got something decent. This photoblog was the inspiration. I've been stalking this cat for weeks now, and it spent 10 minutes sneaking along this fenceline, intently following something in my garden below. This is the closest I've got, yet, a distance of about 5m. I'm so stoked - you can actually see the reflection in its eyes of the clothesline I was hiding behind as I crept up.
I believe this is the cat expression for "busted dude, I saw your feet, but good effort"

More stokage. This greenhouse I built for fun with my boyz turns out to be far too hot. Intended for seed raising, none have sprouted, I'd have to water them like 3 times a day. But look what nature decided to just put in there for me instead.
Also depicted, a perfectly legal use for Switched On Gardener mylar sheeting.
That tomato is twice the height of all the ones in my Victory Garden (pics coming soon).

Cheers, I'm trying to woo it. Still mastering the camera, lots more experimenting to do.

Ben, you say the nicest things. So glad to have another camera in the mix. Even if you do insist on taking bloody cat photos!
Jokes.
Loves them cats. ;-)What camera did you get, as a matter of interest?

Not a picture, that's a Portrait : )
Getting closer - suggest hanging nice piece of gurnard from the lens, or at least somewhere handy....

My father-in-law finally succumbed to the charms of a cat when he was about 78. Until then he couldn't even bear to stroke one.

Air movement helps. Nice puddy pic.

Fuji Finepix S4200. Still cheapish, but approximately 10 times the quality of anything I've owned before.

I'm bordering on bribing it, but so far I've been getting about a meter closer every week, so I'll have it in my hands by Feb. I like cats but don't want to own one. It's a bit mean to feed someone else's cat, borders on theft :-)

I went to a Friends of the Early Settlers Event this evening (I have a relative who is a friend). P.S. Ian the Dunedin Sound is intended as a rotating permanent exhibit that they will be circulating artefacts through on a changing basis.
This picture is part of Pixietown, set up for the Christmas period. For those that remember a Pixietown (there were a few Pixietowns) they were clockwork and gear animatronic gnome cities that (at least in Dunedin) were set up as part of Santa's grotto.

the remains of Little Ted
(Squawk out loud!) That’s tedd-ible! How could they display him like that?!
Mr Leggs says “bring me the head of Little Ted!”

And for those that remember Playschool on TV
You're phrasing makes me feel all middle aged or something. But tell me, what happened to Little Ted? That's a most distressing photo!

For the technologists amount you, meet Elsie, the Post Office’s Bonus Bond winner selector computer from 1971
Somewhere in that museum I think is a Data General computer, that was one of the first in the country, from a factory in Opotiki. It had a huge chub like storage drawer that held these massive discs which, from memory, had a storage capacity of up to 512k.
I used to change them, when I was about 10.

Hell! I was a director of “PlaySchool” in Dunedin for a year& ahalf – and I swear Little Ted was intact when I left! Must’ve happened after 1979-
