Oh these are wonderful. My robots are not proper robots, merely decoration robots. In homage to all true robots, of course. I took the shots on holiday in Napier in January 2011.

Thanks Rebecca. These are great too. Have a friend who knitted a robot. Hoping it might turn up here at some stage.

Daleks however are cyborgs, not robots, so here's a real fictitious robot:

I forgot about that! Thanks. That's one of the coolest things ever, IMhO. I should really add it to the opening post.

    does Emma's knitted Dalek count?

    Absolutely. Been thinking of a theme to encourage people to follow, and the best I could come up with would be any of the following;

    1) Robots, of course.
    2) Retro objects in the house.
    3) Kiwiana.

Or anything else that springs to mind. Springs for instance...

    Decoration robots rock, too!
Looks like the kind of thing you could sell at that marvellous Napier design emporium Aroha and Friends – much to admire there, I like the screen prints and bird cages and the kiwi creativity…
(there’s even a deleted scene from Boy in there somewhere and some great music)

  • Geoff Lealand,

If you ever get to Yokohama (as I hope you all will one day), there is a fantastic robot museum up on the hill in the old European section.

  • Ian Dalziel,

    and let's not forget...
    Eduardo Paolozzi's fine work...
including: Vulcan - it seems the UK is festooned with his mecha sculptures and there's also his collages which I first remember from '60s Brit scifi mag New Worlds

plus some historic robot stuff at Cybernetic Zoo

and to finish, what do you do with a problem like Maria?
well if you an early steampunk adopter like Fritz Lang's Professor Rotwang in Metropolis ...

Ah, right, so you are part of the drumming fraternity. Took a while to register, but your BDO story should have been a clue. Somewhere I have pictures of the Samba crew at the Grey Lynn Festival. Was that you too?
