It is incredible to think it will take another two years for people in the eastern suburbs to have their houses repaired. So many grandstanding burocrats unable to see what is actually needed and what is window dressing. Anyway i took this image of the statue on the square and it kind of sums up the feeling you get walking around the center of this city.

It becomes clear that anyone with a salary as large as Brownlee's as well as all perks afforded to him is not in any way fit to decide what is good for the people who showed up. He has no inclination what it is to worry about a power bill or how to face increases in rates and fees that seem to mushroom. When confronted by people to answer a direct question he ignores them as in the case of Rev Coleman outside the Press Building at an earlier gathering. He has no compassion or understanding and for that reason alone he needs to quit representing people of Christchurch . We need to democratically elect an individual who can relate to Cantabrians and act in their interest.

I despair at media who should know better breathlessly reporting half-assed "surveys" with no questioning of the results' veracity or examination of those producing the "reports" and "surveys".

Hi Hebe i agree with you it seems to paraphrase is the name of the game. One of the first things we were told in Mass Com: Journos these days just have to wait what is being disseminated and then use that to make up a report. One no longer needs to actually get there and observe face to face a story in the making. I was pretty amazed at that. I guess it saves time and money.
To something else, will you be attending the Rudolf Steiner Get Together around the 22nd of this month?

Thank u so much for your wishes. Just have to put up with itchy arms for the next six weeks. It will come to pass. Yes, a collision due to someone listening to a GPS and a setting sun. The driver never spotted the stop sign. It would interest me how many times that actually happens ? Maybe more often than we imagine. Perhaps stops signs have a trigger that animates when a vehicle is say 100 m away?

Ouchy ouchy! Sorry to hear about that Gudrun. Were you on the little yellow? Hoping you recover quickly. I'm increasingly wary of the silly season driving patterns in Auckland too.

Or (as I witnessed t’other day) a Ford thinking it could take on a truck . I commented to the lady in the shop, “why not just accept a truck will take right of way no matter who will be in the right? Why not just assume it is the car that will be at the panelbeaters through the holidays?”
It was the trucks fault , pulling out of a side street onto Dom Rd, but it was the Ford driver who left in an ambulance and it was the Ford that got towed away for a long time. Truck drove off with a ding in its side at the rear end which then made me surmise, car was going too fast to be able to stop when it saw truck right in front of its path or he wasn’t looking. Lose lose situation with jingle bells.
On another note. I had an accident (regrets, I’ve had a few…) along with a Kenworth, some cows and a few more cars but it was sunrise and black ice and despite being warned I couldn’t save myself no matter the speed which was a pathetic 30- 40km/ph. didnt have GPS, just witnesses to say it looked amazing seeing the car corkscrew through the bank at the side of the freeway. Hey, one other car, the mini, was up the bank shoved into dirt! Never saw that car again.Never saw my car again. Some cows survived. -

Interesting stories Sofie,I fear the trouble with Christchurch is that many houses on the streets are there no more and leaving large stretches of it looking you are on a country road. no houses feels a bit more like a main road if you are not familiar with it. an out of townee has to be careful even more than ever.
