  • Islander, in reply to Chris Waugh,

But if the people with the skills come here
    we all win, yes?

  • Chris Waugh, in reply to Islander,

Absolutely! Especially when winter hits and you've got a nice, steaming bowl of 拉面 or 刀削面 warming you up.

  • Hebe, in reply to Gudrun Gisela,

One very, very sick aspect to this mess is that the Ministry of Education and the government think it is absolutely fine to make such a huge announcement this week, only a a couple of days before the two-year anniversary of the February 22 earthquake when the city's collective psyche is so very raw. I want to cry just writing this -- and I am not a weeper -- when I think what it means for the low-income parents, often without even one car, more than one small child, and to suddenly find their school will be now 3km away across three busy roads.

The entire comms strategy is a complete fuck-up. The closure plans are in some cases plain cruel.

Absolutely agree with you Hebe. Imagine on a cold winters morning walking for half an hour before you get to class at only five years of age. Not surprised there was an unanimous vote of 'no confidence'.

Another exhausted competitor during the two day event in North Beach, New Brighton. Lifesavers do an amazing job in saving people from potentially fatal consequences. Flags are there to safeguard them but somehow the message gets ignored and surf lifesavers risk their own lives to save them.
