Well done all. I look forward to watching when I'm left to my own devices.
I’ve had nothing but support from TVNZ ever since the 2 minute coffee meeting with Head of Content Jeff Latch, which basically went “Jeff, have a look at this video from my website contributors” – “It’s great – let me know what we can do to help.”
Very impressed by this.

Did you get this in NZ?

We have become a nation of indoor cats, this is another example of the best minds of a generation being used to get people to click on something.
Damian has exceptional writing ability but seems unsatisfied with that and being on TVNZ OD is better ?

I'm not sure I understand what your point is here Steve? I set up YOURS.nz and now YOURS TV to give young reporters, interviewers, film makers etc a positive outlet for their work. I WANT people to click on it. So does everyone involved.

Dick Weir used to read a news bulletin for kids. Later, Lloyd Scott did it.

onya, sir.

Well done to Damian for holding his own in a sector that's increasingly being swamped by the lowest common denominator.

My first TV job (and prob the reason I've come back to this track) was on Flipside, which was a great youth magazine show, and launched the careers of many young people kicking around in media today.

Brilliant! Will push this at the 14 yr olds - and share as widely as possible. ("Only" on TVNZ ondemand - LOL. Cos, y'know Psy was only popular on youtube...)
-
Good work
I reckon this IS the way of the future and I like that people get paid....brilliant -
Well done buddy, this is awesome. You've stayed the course, and delivered something to be really proud of.
So I apologise in advance for posting this (hey, it's Friday!).

Was Dick Weir known as Wierd, after the fashion of Dan Weir?
-
I like what you're doing Damian. Well done sir!
As an aside, I tried to view the piece but TVNZ refuses me entry unless I provide them with my email and other personal details. Whatever's that about? It seems a little unfriendly.

Yeah that's a very recent thing, and the feedback from young people (and some old ones apparently) is that it's not particularly welcome. I've raised it with TVNZ and of course there's obviously some reasoning behind it - the question will be whether the audience, who happily sign up for facebook/snapchat/instagram feel it's worth signing up for. At least it's not a paywall I guess...
-
I note the personal details required are an age *range* and a gender (quite binary, which I understand not everyone is happy with). Not ideal, but yeah...

At least you don't have to sign in with 'real me' I guess.

Hilary Stace, in reply to
Real Me is an example of how to make a system as complicated and un-user friendly as possible and then require everybody to use it to communicate with agents of government such as Work and Income, particularly those with the least access to or expertise with IT.

I didn’t mind that.
What was a pain – being stuck at the entrance after submitting details, waiting for an email; wading into the spam protection and finding and releasing the email; confirming the registration, only to find … I was on the opening page for TVNZ ondemand, not the Yours TV page, which I wasn’t sure how to find.
Hopefully a better experience from now on :) Episode one is a nice chirpy, quirky start.
But in the youtube age, it’s risky putting up any sort of impediment. -

Yeah I found the same thing (although mine was in the 'promotions' tab of my gmail), and at least I already had the URL for the episode. None of this is pleasing to hear, but thanks for letting me know. :/

Good on you, Damion. The new website for NAME (National Association of Media Educators) is in the offing (and looking good) and it would be highly appropriate to have visible links to your project.

Based on observing my resident youths, I'd second your observation that being On Demand is no hindrance. There are a clutch of youtube stars that I've never seen and only know exist because my 14-year-old talks about them. But looking into it, they clearly really are stars, with a huge (and international) reach. Media has changed. That journalism teacher needs to catch up.

Sue,
As anyone who is addicted to TV knows, TVNZ on demand is how you watch the direct from the US episodes of all the shows. No VPN, no global mode, no US itunes account, no netflicks account just the shows now, sure you need to watch them straight away but that's the whole point anyway.
So this is where the TV junkies are at, just wish i could sign in with facebook, it's how i agree to all sorts of mindless forms.
