  • Sacha, in reply to Danielle,

Love it. Credited with reviving the US music industry's fortunes at the time. Recall the standing ovation from their peers at the Grammys.

  • Rich Lock, in reply to BenWilson,

for some reason they have a particularly strong grip on public imagination as being somehow nobler than other thugs who are involved in murder, ransom, extortion, theft, and slavery.

I was quite fond of 'desert bandits' for a while after seeing 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon'.

And the Greek Klephts had a pretty awesome sense of fashion.

This would be an appropriate time to present a billboard I prepared earlier. How's that for foresight!

    Oooh! This is fun!

  • R A Hurley,

In all seriousness, though. Does this billboard campaign seem more than a little sad to anyone else? Like an attempt to cash in on the cutting edge science of electioneering circa 2005?

    OK. Last one, I promise.

  • Leopold, in reply to BenWilson,

One of the few things I agree with St Augustine on...

In the "City of God," St. Augustine tells the story of a pirate captured by Alexander the Great. The Emperor angrily demanded of him, "How dare you molest the seas?" To which the pirate replied, "How dare you molest the whole world? Because I do it with a small boat, I am called a pirate and a thief. You, with a great navy, molest the world and are called an emperor." St. Augustine thought the pirate's answer was "elegant and excellent."

And apparently one of the advantages of piracy along the East African coast is that fish stocks are recovering - the great commercial fishing fleets have been scared off - poetic justice for many of the Somali fishers who took to piracy following the devatation of their fishing grounds

    oh, what the heck.

But surely there are three sorts of people in the world: those who can count, and those who can't?

I thought there were 10 sorts of people. Those who get binary and those who don't.

  • BenWilson,

There are 2^n types of people, where n is the number of people.

Right. So we've got a policy plank (coat, getting) for the NZ Pirate Party - recovery of our fishing stocks, by hook or by crook.

They still need a ship. It's not real until there's an actual pirate ship.

Edit: See, it's not even expensive

  • Russell Brown,

    Here's last night's show.

Tommy's two years and and was very nervous, but scrubbed up will with a couple of edits.

  • Robert Urquhart,

I serendipitously caught the 1pm re-run, I thought the chap did credibly given he was just a little out of his depth in front of the camera :D And both topics were very relevant to my current interests.

("Scrubbed up will", is that at all similar to "fire at Will"?)
