Is it just me or did they forget to overlay the green screen for the Absinthe bit :-)
Re food in Wellington - Roxy up Cuba St (where the old Purple Onion was) does an awwwesome brunch. The coffee is also most respectable.
No longer a fan of Fidels. I've heard way to much bad stuff about the way they treat their staff, and got sick of walking all that way to not be able to get a seat.

Letterman used to have Conan's late night slot - it was a "we don't care we're in bed" for the tVT execs so pretty much any thing went (one night they recorded the entire show from one camera - that performed a 360 degree rotation during that hour) - they did 'off the wall' really well - now he has a more conventional time slot and a larger straighter audience and he's changed to match and is more like Leno because that's what people expect from that time slot (right after the late news)

Food in Wellington? The best value in town (at least the last time I went there in Jan) has to be the vegetarian burgers at the Basin Noodle House. $2. For a tofu burger with real ingredients.

Don't they call this "keeping on message" in politics?
i get the continuous mentioning of it and the point of it, it was the vibe of his delivery, made us sound sort of a bit pathetic?
Just saying a bit of polish and it could have been much better.

I'd rather Key had declined to be honest
He's a politician. Declining to be honest goes with the territory.
Oh, you meant... Right ;)Sorry, comma pedant needed to be exercised. Maybe that should be exorcised?

David Bowie at BDO? Yes please please please please please please!
-
I guess it would be nicer to be Minister for Tourism at a time when visitor numbers are going up rather than down.
-
Sad thing is, we're most likely going to be in Ak and able to go to the BDO in 2011 but I'd be really happy to see all the artists listed in Russ's post to (possibly) play this year.
Apart from Muse of course.

Apart from Muse of course.
Yeah, nah. I don't get them at all.
-
Have we had this one before?

No-one's mentioned Fidel's yet?
Fidel's is for students and visitors from Auckland.
Ok, Friday YewChoobage funz. The Washington Post are doing dramatic readings of celebrity tweets.
Episode 1 - P. Diddy, Lindsay Lohan and Brooke Hogan:

Dave Waugh, you rock. Thought I was all on my lonesome in suburbia. Now, an unscientific survey of online responsiveness: who posted the Letterman link when.
11.34am: Of all the people to post first, Trevor Mallard on Red Alert11.50am approx: Stuff (their timestamp appears to be the story before the video went up)
12:13pm: honourable mention to RB, a minute ahead of
12.14pm: NZ Herald
and a long lonely last, nearly two hours off the pace:
1:14pm all round National cheerleader David Farrar
As at 2.20pm, absolutely zilch at the places you thought would have been first: the National site, his own John Key site, and the official Beehive site.

I hear from reliable sources that his old show on NBC was very funny. And at least he's not Leno, who is a reliable Sucker of Funny from any room. Blah.
If I was in the audience, I think I'd have to be physically restrained from strangling Paul Schaffer. The interplay they have where he keeps talking behind the host? Turns me green and makes me start ripping my shirt off.

A bunch of scientists record a song.....
"Scientists for Better PCR" a Bsio-Rad Music Video for the all new 1000-Series Thermal Cyclers.

11.34am: Of all the people to post first, Trevor Mallard on Red Alert
11.50am approx: Stuff (their timestamp appears to be the story before the video went up)
The video on Stuff was up earlier than 11.50. I got an email from a workmate at 11.31 linking to it, so it was up well before Trev's post.
-
I stand corrected. Video wasn't up when I looked at Stuff earlier, and their first three comments were at 11.56am - 11.58am, usually a good indicator. I must write 100 lines.

On the tech song bit - The LHC rap:
-
I would recommend Duke Carvell's I have been for both lunch and dinner with my parents recently and the meals were spectacular.
If it was a sunny Sunday I would recommend the Southern Cross
-
My first reaction was to suggest Floriditas - apparently I'm not the only one who loves this restaurant!

Martha's Pantry, just off the top of Cuba Street in one of the original buildings of the area, is a great place to take someone who likes pretty, old china teacups, cake stands, memorial spoons and other quaint NZ memorabilia, Nice food too. Note the old well nearby.
Wearable Arts is cold outside, hot inside and warn your mother that some of it might be a little loud. Topp Twins in great form, Event still highly original even after all these years. New fold section amazing. Outleashed men replace bizarre bras this year.
(And I think that's my niece inside the jigsaw pieces.)

Oooooohhhh me me me !
Keeping on the German theme
Pocket calculator
Robots
trans europe express (marginal but I like it)
-
3410,
I'm quite partial to France Gall's Der Computer Nr. 3 (1968).
(Bonus points for an excellent Beatles steal on the bridge.)

Perhaps The Mutton Birds, with _The Heater_:
Or _Still Alive_?
And since the topic is Bowie, I have to suggest Space Oddity:
