Good looking on the Cedric Brooks – presumably the Light of Saba LP you reference is that on Honest John’s, and its a beauty alright! Reminds me I have ‘Flash forward’ in the shelves too – might have to pull that one out …
For the insomniacs theres a 24 hour jazz mix you can listen too over at Brainfeeder:
http://brainfeeder.net/jameszoo/And closer to home I also enjoyed a radio special last night on Oz jazz man Alan Lee, who’s career was recently the focus of a Jazzman compilation – it was on RRR’s Max Headroom show (16/6) which should be on demand here http://ondemand.rrr.org.au/ or available via the archive page soon. Entertaining insights into the Melbourne scene of the 60’s and 70’s, the influence of muso’s touring with shows like Hair (openign the door to the US funk & soul scene) and the background on experimentalish LP’s from yesteryear which would never happen today.

Yeah, that's the one, The Magical Light of Saba – was racing to finish so I could go out and didn't check the title.
Thanks for the other tips too!

Marlon was my last profile at the Herald. I met a lot of wannabes in my time but he has genuine star quality. Top bloke with it too. Hands up anyone who caught the church tour where he duetted a hymn with Tami N. Crazy good.
That Cedric's pretty fine even if the envelope cover is a pain in the arse.
And just cos, I found one of my longtime grails this week, Percy Faith's Black Magic Woman. The strings can be a bit much for some, but taihoa for the groovy keys...

I met him at the Music Awards last year and he struck me as a genuinely very nice young man,

Own your own history!!
While there’s a feeding frenzy on all things Flying Nun, I thought I might throw this bag of ‘Nun-to-easy-to-find chips’ into the culture carriage of life, just as the doors close – Go gulls! Go!!

The Chills Poster
Star & Garter October 1982
(anyone know who the ‘R’-tist is for this?
Ronnie? Robin? Robert? Rachel?…)and this classic Lesley Maclean poster from 1984.
But wait there’s more…

Proof that Roger at least once got a bit closer to the action at Sweetwaters, though this is still either behind or side-of the stage, I think…
I suspect that's still in the backstage encampment ....
Lovely picture of you though Ian!

Which reminds me, Ian -- the Ford Modelling Agency have been bugging me again for your contact details. Shall I tell them that you're still not interested? They say they're willing to fire Daniel Craig if that's what it takes to renew your contract...

Daniel Craig wishes he had those cheekbones.

According to legend, visiting media types often attempted to interview Toy Love's road crew, as they were a better fit than the band for a certain preconception of what rock stars should look like.

I can imagine this causing confusion in Australia, where in my experience roadies look, feel, sound and smell like roadies.

If you were ever wondering what happened to Mark Rastrick from Ballon D’essai in the mid ‘80s he went to Australia and was contributing fine comics to Pounding Tales’ as Mark Morte!
I just happen to have a copy of Pounding Tales no #5 for sale:along with some other classics
The Spirit #1and
Harvey Kurtzmanboth comics are mostly based on fairly timeless stuff done in the 1940s!!

Hell, I wish I still had those cheekbones...
... I may have been there on false pretences,
I notice my 'backstage pass' is issued to '3YA'... -

At St Michael's and All Angels in Chch. It was 'Oh Holy Night'. Wonderful it was. I can't find a version by the two but Marlon and Tim Moore (composer of Dark Child) do a back yard, in-yer-undies version!
I used to see Marlon a lot when he did solo nights in the Porthole in Lyttelton. Often joined by Hannah Harding for some equally stunning harmonies, One of favorites was The Trees They Do Grow HIgh, an old English folk number popularised by Joan Baez. Here 'tis, recorded in Switzerland last year.

cool, and yeah man, that's the badger. Tami kicked it off and set about tearing things up beautifully until he charged in over the top and tore the roof off. hairs on end stuff.

roadies look
It was an analogue world back then.
My kind of place.
Looking out of place was a good start.
An aside
Moody was too intelligent for most as well.
