And closer to home I also enjoyed a radio special last night on Oz jazz man Alan Lee, who’s career was recently the focus of a Jazzman compilation – it was on RRR’s Max Headroom show (16/6) which should be on demand here http://ondemand.rrr.org.au/ or available via the archive page soon. Entertaining insights into the Melbourne scene of the 60’s and 70’s, the influence of muso’s touring with shows like Hair (openign the door to the US funk & soul scene) and the background on experimentalish LP’s from yesteryear which would never happen today.

According to legend, visiting media types often attempted to interview Toy Love's road crew, as they were a better fit than the band for a certain preconception of what rock stars should look like.

I can imagine this causing confusion in Australia, where in my experience roadies look, feel, sound and smell like roadies.

At St Michael's and All Angels in Chch. It was 'Oh Holy Night'. Wonderful it was. I can't find a version by the two but Marlon and Tim Moore (composer of Dark Child) do a back yard, in-yer-undies version!

I used to see Marlon a lot when he did solo nights in the Porthole in Lyttelton. Often joined by Hannah Harding for some equally stunning harmonies, One of favorites was The Trees They Do Grow HIgh, an old English folk number popularised by Joan Baez. Here 'tis, recorded in Switzerland last year.

cool, and yeah man, that's the badger. Tami kicked it off and set about tearing things up beautifully until he charged in over the top and tore the roof off. hairs on end stuff.
