Wow, I wonder if the media are going to fully report those incident logs - or would they mess with the "rail fail shame" narrative too much? I think there's more than a few people at Veolia who would welcome public apologies from certain politicians (yes, including Len Brown and the Prime Minister) for knee-jerk attacks over the weekend. They shouldn't hold their breath waiting, though.

Well I think what Veolia has to apologise for- and this for regular train commuters may well be familiar- it is to me anyway- is a lack of information and explanation being given to commuters on trains. How their staff are trained to deal with system failure from a customer service and customer safety point of view. How they communicate with trains and public about delays.
The estimate of 15K is clearly low and it will be interesting how they got it.
But overall most people I know had a ball and were amazed. I think it was great the number of Aucklanders that got out to downtown, a real festival atmosphere, though I did leave fairly early on and had no problems using public transport to get around.

Page 6 in ATEED's report says that the number of assaults and hospitalisations were reported as no more than a standard Friday night. Have I missed a statement about usual pedestrian numbers?

Forecasting of waterfront crowd numbers seems to have been incompetent from what's been reported of today's committee meeting.
ATEED's report also confirms that television marketing considerations and the perceived importance of 'Party Central' drove placement and overruled options like opening more dispersed fanzones or extending provision inland. Downplaying the success of their own pre-event marketing must have been hard to swallow.

MED administers the Act. But there is mention in the Act of the establishement of a Rugby World Cup Authority so who knows who he means. It'll be someone who won't be permited to answer the Minister back, you can be sure of that.

I said earlier that I suspected the Pacific Leaders Forum had a bit of a do down on Captain Cook Wharf.
According to TV3 it was a private function for Ports of Auckland. (not on line)On the subject of who was to blame for the transport chaos. Auckland Transport is responsible for the running of the Rail Stations these are run unmanned, It appears that was so on Friday night, there was no management of patron numbers attempting to use the system, apart from closing the doors at Britomart Station.

Veolia says* we had an agreement with Auckland Transport to carry 15,000 fans to Eden Park for the game (from Newmarket and Britomart and presumably stations along the way)
* the stations are basically "unmanned"
* we had people climbing on the trains
* the rail system was basically overwhelmed -

I doubt you can call the funder commissioning another independent report by a lawyer or demanding to station their own staff in Veolia's control room a vote of confidence.
The first page of Auckland Transport's report to the Council committee notes:
Assurances were given by Veolia that measures would be put in place to address customer concerns following the Bledisloe Cup match in August 2011. Despite these assurances, it is clear these measures were not implemented.

I did. There were lemming there, though. Shuffling along behind one another, as they do. I heard some fell into the water on the TV news, but have not heard any confirmation from other sources.
