I had a really good time. Met only about half of the people I wanted to meet, but that's only because there are so many, and the surprise meetings were every bit as fun as the anticipated ones.
What a venue, I always said as a kid it would be a great place for one of those multi-room parties, although at the time I envisaged a 20s style affair with black tie and a lot of smoking, rather than a futuristic occasion with wifi tweeting, full of people drawn together by the internet.
Plenty of good solid conversations, but the comment of the night for me, the one that reverberated in my head all weekend, a parting shot: "Don't be a stranger". That's what makes PAS work - we aren't happy being strangers. Let's do more parties. It would probably be nice if Russell could kick back right from the start for once!
To the author of that comment, I want to know, honestly: Do I still talk more than I listen?

I am sorry I missed this event - was at a farewell function for community boards.
I would like to acknowledge Russell for organising this event. It does much to stimulate the intellectual life of the city. A city that does not love books, good food, wine, art and conversation is a poor city. Thank-you Russell.

Then the hardest most difficult bit of the entire local body elections, surpassing the debates, the flyers, the boring candidates, the endless promises of better transport! better communities! better shiny sparkling lives! is next.
Yes my dear friends, getting that completed ballot paper into the nearest postbox. If you can achieve this, you can achieve anything!
You aren't restricted to post boxes. You can pop your ballot into your mail stream at work. You can give it to your friendly local librarian (we love our librarians!). You can give it to the lovely counter people at Council. Just do it!

Not all all. It's a great example of creative collaboration - our votes influence the shape of the region (including its cultural life) for the next couple of decades. The other day I found myself hectoring someone into voting this time even if she never did again.
Previous concerned citizens and responsive councils led to the restoration of the Civic and the Wintergarden. It's up to each of us eligible Auckland region voters whether that type of investment can happen again.

Same for me, I had a great time but only caught up with a couple of people - but I love the great blends & thoroughly enjoyed Emily P & Dylan H's presentation, as well as Askew and Karl M. Also it jogged a forgotten memory of the Vancouver graffiti artist, (here being political)
Pablo Fiasco.Both Paul & I both arrived straight from work, dinnerless and departed right after the talk in search of food and sleep - specially Paul who had to be at a course at 8:00 the next morning. Blah. 60 hour weeks are for kids.
Let's do more parties. It would probably be nice if Russell could kick back right from the start for once!
Agreed! We should have a big picnic in Cornwall Park as the weather's getting nicer.

I was really hoping to see you, Dyan, and Brent Jackson if he was floating about. I didn't get in more than a wink and a nod at the last party to either of you, somehow it just didn't happen.
But the casual encounters were the ones I really liked, especially with the other commentators.

@Ben. A pity you didn't find Jackie, Megan and I lurking in the corner of the Safari Room sooner. I had intended to leave 'round 10.30 but a hour later I was still engrossed in conversation with two very smart women.

Geoff, cheers for pulling me up quick before I made a real clown of myself when you were talking to Jacinda. How did I recognize her? Facebook? Duh, no, it was from TV*.
*Well actually Facebook has been trying to push her at me for months, along with a few other people who I have subsequently met. It is a bit scary how their system works.

Ben: well, as far as MPs go, she is one of the best around...smart, interesting and a teensy-wensy bit glamorous.
