Mine also, and if you missed it, someone on TV.com has lovingly transcribed it here. Brings new meaning to the name Pearl Jam.
You too? Phew, I just presumed I was some kind of lamo for never realising what the term meant, despite the band being around for centuries.
-
Pearl Jam, 10cc, The Loving Spoonful - there's a long history of bands naming themselves after the baby batter.
-
BTW, apropos of nothing Ingmar Bergman is now depressing the Almighty
God shld be so lucky. We don't get artists that good very often.

Ingmar Bergman is now depressing the Almighty
Not yet, he has to finish the chess game first...

10cc
Oh.
I thought it described my first motorbike.

As Woody Allen might say - "He had it coming to him. But don't we all".
-
Thanks for the Dr Who update Paul, that makes me very happy indeed. Although it may result in some fraught decision-making in our household - new episodes of the Simpsons vs new season of the good Dr...

The Loving Spoonful
Oh, I thought that was reference to Heroin ...
RE: Breakfast
My how I laughed when they announced that Kay Gregory was taking over as the female frontperson. She was a 'weathergirl' for gawdsake! But it turned out I was ageist -- I thought she was great, the perfect foil to smarmy (but watchable) Paul Henry. Now, according to the Herald the two didn't have any chemistry and something had to give. So Kay has quit, giving 2 weeks notice? With TV3's Sunrise show coming I have to wonder: "was she pushed?" If so it's a shame, cos she was good and I don't like her touted replacement Pippa 'Worzel' Gummidge'.
Of course, TVNZ say she wasn't pushed, but what are we to make of Paul Henry's comment: "...as the years roll on doing it, it does take its toll..."

Having shared a couch with the both of them every third Wednesday, I can confirm that you are right and the Herald is wrong. The paper always bangs on about how the two of them have "no chemistry" and it's not true - her mumsy style makes a nice foil for him. You don't have to be shagging each other to have "chemistry", you know.
-
heh heh ... I was going to say 'mumsy' too, but thought the better of it.
BTW - possibly a bit harsh on Pippa above, but glad Charlotte Glennie is no longer fronting Agenda. Good reporter but her fronting skills were a bit lacking. Seemed to let a few obvious questions slide during live interviews on Agenda. Still think Simon Dallow was great - they sometimes squirmed in front of him.
-
IO - I think you mean Lisa Owen - a perfectly fine reporter, but at times she was painful to watch as an interviewer.

Man, I so miss Newsnight with Ali amd Marcus...

Those were golden days, ow. And then there was the earlier late-night pairing of Joanna Paul and Belinda Todd on Nightline.
Also, everyone has to watch Outrageous Fortune tonight. That is all I will say.

Indeed - one of the more pleasant surprises to come out of TVNZ was seeing someone I'd pretty much dismissed as a pretty but vacant autocue reader coming out as a pretty sharp interviewer. Can't envy the man getting the big desk - but I do hope he gets moved to 7 o'clock if they decide to de-fluff Close Up.
And having pretty ferociously dissed Lisa Owen, I've got to say she was improving - and that kind of interview is much harder than it looks, because you've got to make an endless string of instant judgment calls: how the subject is going to play it out, when to push (and how hard without it going to custard), when to just hang back and let the subject hang themselves, when a line of questioning is going nowhere and what to shift track to... You can learn a lot of it, but there's a certain degree of instinct there too.
And, I/O, I can tell you from experience that the ''obvious questions' quite often don't seem so obvious at the time.

Lisa Owen
D'oh! I say again: D'OH!!!
(oh, how soon we forget their names when they're not on no more)
-
Holy &^%$, they killed off Aurora.
I'm sad, she was my favourite character on Fortune. :-(

I'm sad, she was my favourite character on Fortune. :-(And having Hine E Hine aka The Goodnight Kiwi music playing over that final scene made it almost impossible to not cry.
RIP, Rors.

3410, sorry to hear about your lack of Alt but relieved it's staying on Sky - being in Wellington we've only ever been able to get it that way. I'd actually been wondering if it was too good to be true, since decent music channels tend to progress rapidly from endangered to extinct around here. Anyway we're enjoying it while it lasts...
-
oh thanks for the freakin' spoiler alert y'all!!
Some of us had recorded it for later viewing!
(I did wonder why they only signed her for 4 eps)
-
Man that's harsh! Did Claire Chitham kick the writers' puppy or something?
There was some stunned silence in our household. Still is. -
I wonder if they were writing/filming/directing that bit as the Goodnight Kiwi clip came up on OurTube here? Thematically appropriate, hugely culturally resonant in New Zealand, and a wonderful way to tell a story about Van's character. I know I had tears running down my face thinking about the kiwi and the cat flipping their switches and turning the lights off.
-
Dang... Those Shortland Street roots are showing - when in doubt start slaughtering the cast. :) But kudos to Rachael Lang, because I had the horrible sense (even without the promos) that there weren't any happy endings in store for Van and Aurora. Meanwhile, who wants to bet that we're far from finished see shit hit the fan at high speed?
Oh, and can someone please give Robyn Malcolm a special award for Best Fierce Bitch in a Television Drama? I can't pay her any higher compliment than saying she's doing the kind of work that wins Helen Mirren... well, every statuette, plate, gong and lump of perspex she's nominated for. :) No disrespect to anyone else in the cast, but Robyn just owns every scene she's in.

Jeebus...it's really turning out to be a sucky week to be a arthouse cinema god.
Michelangelo Antonioni, the Italian director whose chilly depictions of alienation were cornerstones of international filmmaking in the 1960s, inspiring intense measures of admiration, denunciation and confusion, died on Monday at his home in Rome, Italian news media reported today. He was 94. He died on the same day as Ingmar Bergman, the Swedish filmmaker who died at his home in Sweden earlier Monday..
