Sacha, you and me , we don't have dialog. lets leave it like that eh.
I've asked for clarification on points raised.
seems simple enough. -
"Clarification" does not extend to pompously declaring you'll be Smith's representative in these parts. And if you don't like the heat then start eating takeways.
-
I'm happy for anyone else to find what actual is said and actually was meant or does that kinda rain on the fun of righteous indignation vibe?.
I haven't declared anything of the sort but I object to efforts to keeping the whole discussion one sided. It was as simple as a quick email to find what he actually did say and its completely relevant when people start using fabrication to build animosity toward him to discredit whatever it is he might be representing. Stick to the facts, that's not too much to ask is it?
-
I agree it is wrong to misrepresent what the man said.
-
And I do apologise for my tone last night. Thank you for responding graciously this morning.
-
And I've clearly explained above why I'm very interested in hearing Mr Smith adequately explain his position. When a lawyer shows that type of disrespect for basic legal principles then he must expect to be called on it.
I didn't know Smith was, but I've said the same of Hocquard
It's very strange.
-
Stick to the facts, that's not too much to ask is it?
hahahahahahahahahahahaha...oh, dear. <wipes eyes>
No. No, it's not, robbery. Thanks for coming to that realisation. I look forward to an enhanced debate :-)
-
I also withdraw my comment about Smith and the burgers. I agree, he did not specifically mention that Bic Runga was flipping burgers, and I apologise for any offense my comment may have caused.
-
Plans for Zax bypass have been put on indefinite hold.
-
But they're still on display, second star on the right and straight on till morning.

whatever do you mean by that, I thought you said you just found the cartoon amusing.
-
I look forward to an enhanced debate
if by enhanced you mean the opportunity to look further inside the world and mind of mark harris, at excruciating length, yes, that, does, seem, kinda...... like something, you, might,.......look forward too........
You'll admit there's a difference between offering an opinion and just making shit up, (this is where you go trawling through miles of discussion to find an example of a factual error of mine, see you in a couple of days)

I've always known it, but not from your posts.
his is where you go trawling through miles of discussion to find an example of a factual error of mine, see you in a couple of days
You over-rate your importance ;-)
-

No, I said I find the Zax amusing. The cartoon itself is an important social satire, particularly since it is also a children's book.
And you are a Zax, my friend. Very much so. But the world would not be such a rich place without the legions of Zax crossing it in every direction.

Matthew Holloway did the right thing and withdrew what he's said about "flipping burgers".
But as I said, I don't think Bic thanked Campbell for the mention, if only because of the way it exposed her to a lot of vitriol from the dullards on the Herald's Your Views (I'm sure you can imagine the tone). Other dullards wrote letters to the Listener.
Campbell was mixing one role (RIANZ CEO and submitter) with another (artist manager). She hadn't asked to be involved in the issue at all, and I didn't envy her.

BTW, I watched the new 90-min BBC documentary about Rough Trade, Do It Yourself , last night and can heartily recommend it to anyone with means of acquiring it.
It goes right through from the opening of the shop to the revived Rough Trade's success with Duffy. It's a story of lessons learned, and Geoff Travis doesn't come out unscathed, but it also records the various cultural explosions that his company helped set off.
I worked the odd casual day at Rough Trade and wrote for its in-house mag, The Catalogue for two or three years. The editor was Richard Boon, the first manager of the Buzzcocks, who's in the doco. He looks just the same.
Also, it's quite nice to see a modern music business story that doesn't refer to the internet, MP3s or piracy ...
-
I've always known it, but not from your posts.
but in this case we're talking about your posts and the example is clear not a few pages back so its a little rich of you to take the high ground on this occasion.
It still doesn't prove he didn't say it, I mean we only have his word in a national news paper and his direct comment to me. To prove you right we would need a transcript of the submission
but since we don't have that.....The thing is if you're wrong about Mr Smith then what else are you wrong about that you've built on those false assumptions. Who can we to believe in if we can't have you as unchallengeable. you're shaking our faith here Mark,......... there is no god.
You over-rate your importance ;-)
A simple "you got me fair and square would suffice"
-
And you are a Zax
just me?
it appears this time I was the one who wasn't a zax. -
It takes two Zaxes to tango.
-
But we can always build a bypass..
-
Matthew Holloway did the right thing and withdrew what he's said about "flipping burgers".
hardly, he still insists on twisting the whole thing around to be an example of Campbell being full of shit.
This type of exaggeration happens regularly. In 2007 the head of RIANZ Campbell Smith allegedly told a Parliamentary Commerce Select Committee that Bic Runga had to take a second job or as Bic Runga called it 'flipping burgers' due to illegal downloads. Bic Runga responded denying the claims "Got home to some fuss in the media about how most New Zealand musicians have to have day jobs. Now that's never been news! But you know, I haven't flipped burgers since i was 15" (incidentally, Campbell Smith is married to Bic's sister, Boh Runga).
He also left out the key line
Thanks for your concern, but most musicians are just happy to be musicians.
not thanks campbell for your concern but thank you people who mis interpreted campbell's statement and fueled the hysteria.
She didn't mention campbell and people are stretching if they think Bic who is managed by Campbell would talk to him through her myspace page.
Trying to turn her comment into some sort of criticism of her manager is just wishful thinking.Holloway still comes off as the one who is prone to exaggeration and tarnishes his endeavor and those who are associated with it by playing these kind of tactics. Holloway should drop the whole trying to discredit Campbell thing and stick to the valid points he can prove. a good one is the no fines for mis accusation comment. Leave the smear campaign alone.
Campbell was mixing one role (RIANZ CEO and submitter) with another (artist manager).
I would read that more as he was relating personal experience and expertise to back up the submission that unchecked downloading is hurting his artists. Trying to read in some sort of malicious lying theme to defraud the committee is just off.
She hadn't asked to be involved in the issue at all, and I didn't envy her.
trying to distance her from the views of her manager based on what? once again we don't have her saying "I don't want to be involved in this issue", we have her saying the uproar seemed silly. ie "some fuss", and ended with "thank you for your concern".
A very oblique reading of a pretty straightforward statement that doesn't attack Campbell's credibility but still people try to use it in an attempt to do so.
we could ring her up and ask her actual view I suppose. Shall I do it?
-
Or we could step to one side..

Meanwhile.. back at the S92 debate... this news
http://www.radionz.co.nz/news/stories/2009/03/15/1245a418a513
Mr Hide is taking up the case at last. He has nailed the problem in his statement "it's a stupid law, which is fundamentally flawed".
I wonder if he means "section" when he says "law", but he is quoted as saying law.
By the way, this discussion is now on page 53, wasn't there a bet on that?
-
Sorry, I should have checked other news stories - he is talking about the section.
-
just me?
it appears this time I was the one who wasn't a zax.You were a Zax, forging inexorably in one direction. Eventually the other Zaxs got out of your way. I have no doubt that this Zax world is curved, though, and you will meet again. The bypass may still be needed.
