  • Russell Brown,

Will skip the subesequent festivities, I suspect. Past my bedtime.

8pm? What is it with journalists these days?

  • Emma Hart,

I shall be there, probably the only one in double breasted pinstripes, with my Presbyterian reserve and my silent thoughts of 'I think that goes a bit far.'

Awesome. I was raised Presbyterian. I think I'm still allowed on the Reserve.

  • Russell Brown,

I’ll be in Auckland for some days after this for further shenanigans, but that’s a secret until it isn’t.

I think I just let that out on Twitter.

Friday December 4: Orcon Great Blend Christmas Party, with another Nat Torkington-curated Ignite session and all kinds of awesomeness throughout the evening.

(I'll keep the entertainment lineup secret for the moment, but I think you'll be impressed.)

Mark that bad boy in your calendar too.

  • Geoff Lealand,

Nor are we ignoring you like we are Hamilton and Dunedin and all those other towns.

On behalf of the ignored, "city" please!

So, it looks like another trip up SH1!!

  • Steve Barnes,

It's the male version of retail Platonic idealism. You don't even come away with a torturous but flattering pair of shoes at the end of it.

    Reminds me of this.

  • Rob Hosking,

I just thought the blokes in that ad seemed very Platonic, but not in the way usually associated with beer ads.

  • Dave Patrick,

Indeed - a real bloke would sort of glance out the corner of his eye, go "Nice", and carry on drinking. Getting that excited about Heineken is a little disturbing - be all right if it was a beer worth drinking.

  • Rob Hosking,

be all right if it was a beer worth drinking.

    I'll drink to that.

Unfortunately - and be warned, those attending the Wellington launch - in the past Parliamentary functions have had two types of beer: Heineken and one other I can never remember.

Now, about a month back a new firm got the catering contract. Don't know if that will change the beer but I hope so.

Thus far the main change in the lunch bar has been the arrival of vegetarian pies.

I can never see the point of vegetarian pies. It's a bit like decaffeinated coffee.

Heh. Well, in my defence, always been more of a morning person.

And, specifically, the next day I am driving nine hours with an autistic six year old in the back seat. So I shall need a full night's restful shut-eye.

    Or sugar-free barley sugar?

What's on Media 7 this week, Russell?

    Not at all.
Imagine the puff pastry with mushroom, spinach sauteed in garlic and marinated feta with a hint of sundried tomatoes pie, all washed down with a good kiwi Epic Pale Ale. To finish with a nice Cuban cigar and a Laphroaig (just learnt to say that last night). mmmmm

Heineken, pink shoes, the whole thing makes no sense to me.

I like Sofie's dinner plans, though I might skip the pie.

But pie is what you make which means anything, and veges have their good place. :) The rest definitely is worth. Gotta stay in shape.

No offence intended, but that would be just brilliant with a bit of dead animal in it as well.

dead animal in it as well.

None took, each to the own. I could do creamy garlic leeks with smoked fish and roasted carrots wrapped in a puff pastry. wash that down with Old Speckled Hen. then the single malt and a smoke :)

  • Dave Patrick,

I'll pass on the smoke if I can have an extra Laphroaig instead :)

beer: Heineken and one other I can never remember.

Remembered it now: Amstel. Name sounds like a 1980s computer. Tastes like nothing at all.

Its the boutique beer you have when you're not having a boutique beer.

Y'know I'm thinking of getting some land in Scotland. Just a small plot, but one all the same :)

    Yum.

all washed down with a good kiwi Epic Pale Ale.

    Ew.

To finish with a nice Cuban cigar

    Yum.

    and a Laphroaig

    Ew.

So in summary, at the Great Blend Xmas party thingy, there will be a group of us outside with cigars. Some will have whiskey. Some will have rum. Only those who smoke cigars and drink whiskey/rum need apply.

That depends. Can David be one too?

Jackie, I have just been experiencing the smoky earthy flavour of Laphroaig these last few nights. It's definitely doable and as a 'friend' I can get a numbered plot! Is there a catch, I do not know yet, but this is a drink worthy of recognition and I don't need much ! :)
I'd like to say it's RB influence or I wont, but what I am learning is there are soo many levels to a single malt. So far so good.

    RSVPing NOW!!!!!!

And definitely keen on the book release, I really want Dr Hay to sign a copy of his book.

I'd get Emma to sign her book for me too but I'm too scared of her to ask.
