  • Emma Hart,

surely they could have sampled her voice and created a facsimile for the computer voice one last time... sob

    IMDB says:

"Majel Barrett, the wife of "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry, has a role in this film as the voice of the Enterprise computer. She completed filming two weeks before her death on December 18 2008."

I wasn't however at any stage conscious of hearing her voice. Did anyone else pick it up?

  • Craig Ranapia,

Janeway was a pain but the stories were ace.

I thought the shit-to-quality ratio was unacceptably high, myself. When you're turning over, in effect, the equivalent of ten full length features in a little over six months, its not all going to be gold pressed latinum. But you've just got to draw the line somewhere.

informed that water is a lot harder than you'd think.

So I should wear protective clothing before I shower?

I think all of us could rate all the films and series on that scale. For me TNG's reliance on the holodeck for so many stories tops the list. But I'ver ead of others who love those fictions within fictions.

Voyager did a bit of that too but I thought were better linking it to the series premise or threats to the ship...

    the raw sexual magnetism.

I had that problem once. I had myself degaussed, and it cleared right up. I still have a slight bias state though.

Surely you needed to reverse the polarity.

I'm pretty sure OSH has determined sexual magnetism needs to be heated to 65C for at least 30 minutes to be safe.

I'll join if I can have the ten wives promised.

On second thoughts, cancel that application.

  • Steve Parks,

In other news, Kevin Smith raves about Chris Pine.

The clip on that site misses the money quote from Smith: “"I'd watch that dude do anything… I'd watch that dude have sex with my wife at this point. He's such a good actor."

Also, looks like Smith might be able to see more of Pine in the upcoming Green Lantern movie that Russell mentioned a few posts back. Apparently Pine will be offered the role of Hal Jordan in the film to be directed by NZer Martin Campbell.

And that's all for Steve's celebrity gossip.

[3410 fails to construct a decent Chris Pine / Chris Pike joke.]

Which raises the obvious question: If he was having sex with your wife, what makes you think he'd be acting?

OK, I can get with that. Its the inscrutable, really good at math bit I want to stay the hell away from. The Wrath of Tze Ming The Merciless I do not need. :)

Heh, I kept trying to make a 'reversing the polarity of the toaster oven' joke work, and then thinking I probably shouldn't.

Y'know, he's just not THAT good an actor. Either that or Smith has a very long list of actors he'd like to watch having sex with his wife.

I can't picture Chris Pine having sex without flashing on 'Team America: World Police' -- because there's nothing more disturbing that puppet sex. The lack of genitalia and all that.

But let's give credit where credit's due, he is a good enough actor to realise that channeling the quantum singularity of weird that is the thespian stylings of William Shatner wasn't going to work. Instead we got a really nice portrait of an annoying jerk-off who became a marginally less annoying jerk-off with a shiny new bromance to play with.

And am I the only person who was pretty glad we didn't get Nurse Chapel? You've got to say to yourself a lot "it's the sixties" to get past the pervasive and casual sexism of TOS, but Christine Chapel is where I give up. Way too Mills & Boon in space for my liking...
