T'was at the time, but I am still here (attached to lots of medication) and now, I just don't sweat the small shit. Get's me through the daze. Amazing how an experience like mine helps one to adjust their radar. I just wish I could run or skip or do anything physical a little faster than walk. But hey, I don't sweat the small shit so that's waaay down my list. First I want world peace. Yeah right!

Well. I don't know what to say except how very challenging that must be. And well done for making it through and keeping your sense of humour! Such frail bodies we have. Take care of yourself.

Actually we are pretty resilient. I was paralysed on my left side for a while, Got ability back but feeling/sensations are strange. Being on chemo for a year fixed my damaged liver. Hell my jaw muscle was removed on the right side but surprise surprise I learnt to talk without it for the month I was waiting for the brain swelling to go down. My friends weren’t surprised much though. So with missing skull and missing jaw muscle and paralysed ,I could still talk. That, even surprised the Surgeon. It is just fantastic what a public hospital can do for ya these days!

Sofie's experiences led to a joint art-installation in the Auckland stroke recovery unit largely by herself & Steve. The ward sister was reported as saying it was a kind of forgotten unit, and anything was appreciated. So, there's a chunk of pounemu & a couple of books, and a really tactile piece of worked driftwood...stuff you can finger & think a bit about, that isnt hospital routine-

Yes and thanks to Islander who contributed greatly to the sculpture, it was much appreciated and cathartic for me. It felt right to give back to those who had given me their best. :)

What an amazing recovery! You obviously weren't meant to stop talking! ;-)
I'm glad you had good care. And the sculpture sounds awesome. -

A leetle note here: I know everybody does their bit & best for all kinds of charities,
but St John's & the Stroke Foundation (along with Foundation for the Blind & Women's Refuge) are the ones I will truly dig my last dollar out of my pocket for - they have helped me & mine (majorly) - kia ora tatou katoa! -

but St John’s & the Stroke Foundation (along with Foundation for the Blind & Women’s Refuge)
I was thinking ,membership for St John is reasonable and they are a great help if you need a hospital quickly. That is a support worth having. And here's a good moment in time. The lovely ol' lady who lived down the back from us, passed recently, and has left her house to the Women's Refuge. It sold on Wednesday. What a huge boost to Women's Refuge. Cool eh :)

That is sweet/sweet as! news- those good workers can sure as shit use the funding, especially in testoterone-overfuelled times…have supported them from 1983-
disclaimer: I have supported the Foundation for the Blind since I earned my first
monies as a worker. I’ve never actually received any benefit from them – nor have any of my immediate whanau – but! we’re all* sight-disabled, and can all imagine (shudddderrrr) being totally blind-*90% of us –extreme myopia mainly, but also born blind in one eye (3 of us) -Lucy Stewart/Bart Jantzen ??? + female recessive gene coupled with male
ur –+ propensity?
I know about blue/grey eyes but a lot of us also have brown/nearly black eyes… -
So.
The brain was stained and it's mainly in the pane.

Well to join in by getting down to the guts of it, my image to replace the blank grey, perhaps only a rumour that it looks like it might come from "The Little Prince"?
