How about everyone gets to do what they want with their books?
Allow me to rephrase, because of course they can. The sexiness, for me, is diminished by the cover-curling. This is probably a result of two things:
1/ most of my book supply has always been communal - from libraries. Corner-bending doesn't bother me, but things that do permanent damage to the book do. And also people who make notes in library books correcting what they think are grammar errors. In pen. And are wrong.
2/ lending. I'm still not really over the trauma of finding about a half-dozen of my own books lying on my flatmate's floor with their spines broken and covers curled and bent in half.
So it's not that I think people who cover-curl or spine-break their own books are scum, just that I find the exercise of care over a book more attractive. I am of course completely shallow.

I find that sort of thing part of the joy of library books but 100% with you on the rest of what you said. I guess it goes back to the days when books were rare that that respect was born but, going back to the subject of writing in the margins, I have come across quite insightful and sometimes humorous, commentary scrawled in the most unusual books and that can make them even more precious.

No you're not. And while I doubt I'd get the chance to borrow books from Gio, now I'm not sure I'd want to. I have an unread copy of an Ihimaera book you could borrow though, if your kitty litter has run out.

And for those who would rather, hot women with books (possibly NSFW, and includes images of books being damaged (Sorry Emma)).
Perhaps bringing this back on thread(s),most of those men are totally up for it, but most aren't really pulling it off, at least as far as clothes are concerned.
