  • Hard News: The GST Punt,

Watching TV3 news last night, did the reporter not claim Labour believes reduced GST income would be 'paid for by savings made in the health system'? What savings would these be exactly? Either that's bad reporting, or all I can say is, good luck with that.

    And then Cunliffe said;

Removing GST from fresh fruit and vegetables would cost $250-$270m, he said.

"Getting the price of cigarettes up has brought in about $200m ... that's pretty much a wash."

A wash is not processing, right?

Excuse my cynicism, but 'punt' seems an apt description. The likelihood of Progressive et al passing on the savings seems very slim too. Given some believe they already put 500% markup on some produce, really can't see them coming over all altruistic all of a suddden.

How many of the GST exempt status' in Europe etc where implemented retrospectively? That would be interesting to know.

Sorry if this has been covered anywhere else. Came in late, and read through post and first three pages as 'efficiently' as possible.

This is a euphemism, right? Just trying to work out what for, but have a few ideas.

There's only one cock in the pilot's seat.

    Just sayin'.

His Garthness does get a fair spanking in the associated Comments.

Yes he does. Deservedly. Will it make a blind bit of difference? I stopped reading after page 3. My brain hurt. Must stop reading his articles all together, but Bfm mentioned this, and made me look.

The child's identity was not stolen 26 years ago, it was simply borrowed, and that harmed neither the child nor his parents, particularly since the false passport was never used.

It appears, too, that the assault in Tonga eight years ago was trivial.

Oh, Girth, shuddup, please, we begs you.

Islander, while in Singapore last week saw a certain book with a new cover on the shelf at two bookstores; Borders and Kinokuniya.

One should never sell themselves short my friend.

    What she said.

Sofie, if you are building your own home, I am insanely jealous. Seems the 40s makes you think more about where you would have the kitchen, if you built it yourself.

I have never smoked or drunk alcohol, and my hobbies include doing jig-saw puzzles, reading, and collecting vintage computers. . When you hang with me, you never look back.

That would make a very good, but ironic, Twitter bio. You sort of feel the last sentence is incomplete. '...as you run screaming for your life.'

Did some research into the 'Ballot Order Effect', because reading the candidate information booklet made me want to smash my head against something hard. Turns out it does exist, however it is not as significant with 'major party candidates', which I guess applies to Banks and Brown. Still, they are in the Bs, so Wayne Young really hasn't a hope. Nothing to do with his opening gambit:

To be honest the salary of a quarter of a million dollars appeals.

I can respect a man who puts his mouth where his money is.

ETA: He has also coined the phrase 'sewage footpaths'. Some of them are a bit shit, but this seems slightly harsh.

Don't care that he has done similar things for 40 years, cause that still made my hair tingle.

And thanks, found Deerhunter Helicopter. Haven't given them enough time, by all accounts.

I'd have given it to the Julia Deans song. But I'm not saying the whole thing's now meaningless because my pick didn't win.

Now you mention it, me too. Seeing her singing it live even more so, as while the album version is good, her belting it out in person was superlative deficit inducing.
