  • Hard News: iPad Impressions,

PAS is perfect width for scrolling on an iPhone too. It did feel a bit like RB had to justify his bleedin' birthday present. Still, these ethical dilemas are worthy of consideration.

  • Hard News: iPad Impressions,

Wrote a long piece trying to describe this programme I'd seen on Tropic of Cancer about child labour in Bangladesh. Then I found it.

I think the comments about what happens when 'foreigners come and stop the children working' is quite surprising, and the comments of the UNICEF worker also. Pragmatism over idealism? Of course we'd all love the context to change so that it was not necessary, but iPads and Jobs are but a blip on a monumental, globalised, greed and consumerist based existence, of which I am in no doubt I play a part.

    What to do?

  • Hard News: iPad Impressions,

I left my screen for a few hours, and look what happens. Muldoon is opening 'The Ministry of Setting Everyone's Margin' from beyond the grave, presumably ably assisted by Bollard et al.

    'The doom of complete obliteration.'

But hey, I'm just glad we have a firm grip on the significance of Apple launching it's iPad in New Zealand. Carry on, this is fun.

Using an iPad to replace the tape cassette drive for an Apple iie.

Damn your eyes! Now I want an old Apple IIe and an iPad.

  • Hard News: iPad Impressions,

Our current iMac is a G5 PowerPC. 2004? The Macbook for work is newer, but I'm certainly more towards the 5 year replacement than 2.

I'm increasingly convinced that buying an iPad would actually be saving money as it would further delay the upgrade of the iMac ;-)

And as fanboys go, 1983 Apple IIe? And we had the first Macintosh at home in 1984. Cock-a-doodle-doo!!

but I'd just bore you all.

No, not all. But I might have heard it before. Just don't mention the Australian connection or I might start contradicting myself on the whole pricing thing.

  • Hard News: iPad Impressions,

iSupply table for the iPad. Those margins, not too shabby eh?

Surely the price reflects the market demand? If it didn't they wouldn't be selling so many of the damn things. Better marketing means better returns. What's the problem with that?

If Apple is forced to limit the margins on it's products, the world really might be ending.

It's day 5, and I still haven't bought one, but my resistance is wavering, and more so for all this Apple Bashing. Maybe 'we' really are Satan's minions. Cause I would clearly sell my soul for an iPad right about now...

Explaining to the hackocracy one more time the distinction between correlation and causation

Sometimes correlation doesn't even mean correlation.

Sarcasm aside, this stuff is quite sinister, when you see how it is being wielded by certain groups. It has lead me to some truly hideous & frightening stuff. What a mixed up crazy world we live in. Yes, we should try and counter such ignorance. Any ideas how?

  • Hard News: iPad Impressions,

"They're so much cheaper these days!"

I waited 5 years to replace the Sony Trinitron TV with a plasma flat screen. By that time it was down to $1400. Less than half the price of the Sony. Originally I said I'd wait for iPad 4.0 to come out, with iChat etc, but all this peer group pressure is starting to get the better of me.

    Gold

This million dollar laptop can be ordered in gold.

And this wooden laptop comes with either ivory or 24 carat gold keyboard. The ivory sure seems suss.

Or the pièce de résistance Gold Plated Voodoo PC. Tacky is right.

I'd buy a gold plated iPad though. Cause that's different ;-)

Careful Emma, someone could get hurt on that sarcasm

Bring the sarcasm. How else should we respond?

I think the best quote so far from someone on the news was 'just because two things happen at the same time, doesn't mean they're related.' You're kidding me?

There goes my theory that it was Demi More sitting on Letterman's lap that caused the oil spill. I mean it's all about divine retribution, innit?

Dressed for suck-suss, this is bad mint on.

Having watched the extra 10 minutes of Media7, Pam Crockery gives new meaning to the term 'ladies a plate'.

[I really must do some work. Emma, please, stop this now!!]
