  • Hard News: Mt Albert Old-School,

On the basis of a quick look at Slater's blog today, I hope he knows a good defamation lawyer, because at some point one of his targets is going to bite back.

Is the fact that no one takes you seriously an actual defence though?

How does that work ? Undecided voter's house ? Flatmates with different political views ?

Just people getting into it, I think. It's quite neat.

  • Not Guilty,

But Russell, you should probably take down anything that refers to that content of that Herald story until it's clear exacly what the suppression order relates to. Unless you've had advice from a media lawyer.

Thanks Scott. I'll take some advice on that, and watch what the Herald does.

And your point is, Russell? Andy Williams isn't exactly shy about trash-talking his political enemies, but I'd be disinclined to make any excuses if the obscene bullshit was flowing in the other direction.

I think it would be wise to establish who actually sent the fax before condemning Williams, but I did say that would be "even more improper" if that were the case. I don't believe I was making "excuses" for anyone.

I was just struggling with the idea of Slater being any kind of victim.

  • Island Life: The resignation of Captain Worth,

I don't think the ethnicity of the complainant in sexual harassment cases is relevant in any way, shape or form. If sexual predators target minority women because they're seen as sexually 'loose' or 'easy' targets who are less likely to be believed if they make trouble, that's a whole new level of grotesque. I don't know what I've said or done around here to make anyone think I believe otherwise.

I don't think anyone has said or implied that minority women are "loose", "easy", or "less likely to be believed".

The implication, if anything, was that Worth might see them less likely to complain about sexual harassment. I certainly wouldn't know what he was thinking, but there is quite a bit of research that suggests that minority women are indeed less likely to complain in those circumstances.

And you did see fit to directly accuse Phil Goff of racism in the other thread:

I really hope I seriously misheard Mr Goff telling the listeners of Newstalk ZB that Indians don't make a fuss about that kind of thing. Strikes me as not only rude (because those brown ladies don't make a fuss when their menfolk are douche-baggy, Phil?) but a wee bit racist.

What, nothing about Key endorsing John Banks for Supermayor?

Lord forbid that I should gazump Mr Slack.

  • Hard News: Night at the Museum,

Nothing personal, but I found Wayne Hope far less interesting than young social media swimmer Monica Barton (any relation to Chris?).

Yes, she's the daughter of Chris Barton and Diana Wichtel, and was drafted in late after Finlay had lunch with them on the previous Sunday. She was quite a star. Although I think it's "Monika".

  • Hard News: Swine flu, terror and Susan Boyle,

Russell's a very talented man, but he's not god, and he's not above criticism
    (or dishing it out),

How odd. I believe you made a sneering reference to me as "mr god controller" earlier in this very thread, although I'm sure you'll be able assure me it was just a joke .

But thanks for that link back to the time of your arrival here. It has reminded me that it's been nearly two years that I've been putting up with this crap.

  • Island Life: The resignation of Captain Worth,

Could someone enlighten me what this meeting is actually supposed to achieve?

Call me crazy, but I'm pretty sure it would help get to the bottom of some fairly serious allegations about the conduct of a minister of the Crown.

I presume that when he was for the meeting before he was against it, Key thought the same thing.
