  • Speaker: Copyright Must Change,

Hmmm, I'm downloading it right now. Do they go by IP address or credit card details?

I can only guess that because you registered in the US they've decided that's where you are.

And, happily, Brad from Ghostly sent me a nice email to apologise and provide a working link. Good indie guy stuff.

Although they probably still need to get their distribution and their e-commerce better sorted.

  • Not Guilty,

I have to say, unless Hilary has more information than us, David Bain didn't scream "aspie" to me.

As I've said elsewhere, someone at the State Services Commission actually needs to sit Messers Goff and Key down and explain why workplace sexual harassment is serious shit, and not ammo in a political game.

Hmmm. First, I think if Goff's intent had been to play a political game, he'd have done so in Budget week. Secondly, when did this become a workplace issue?

The reality is that Key received an extraordinarily serious allegation -- that one of his ministers had been promising Crown appointments in pursuit of sexual favours -- and chose to let it die. It might have panned out okay, but for the subsequent matter. But it didn't and he actually does have to own that.

There is some scope for comparison to Clark's hear-no-evil stance on Peters (although far less obviously a victim), but I can't help but think that Clark, confronted with a heads-up like this, would have made damn sure someone found out exactly what happened. It seems that Key didn't.

And could I say this: I don't actually think the Prime Minister's office should be investigating claims of workplace sexual harassment.

But as far as I know, this wasn't anything do to with a workplace. And what was alleged is well beyond the bounds of workplace harassment and emphatically in the domain of the Prime Minister.

Key's about-face this afternoon on his willingness to meet with the Indian woman is just another step in a shambolic response. It is easily his worst few days as Prime Minister, and probably his worst since he entered politics.

I now wait to see who wins the bidding war between Campbell and Sainsbury to hump his leg at seven.

Campbell, by miles. In both good and not so good ways.

  • Not Guilty,

I've thought since the re-trial started that it was like the OJ Simpson case.

He was probably guilty (oh, alright, OJ was definitely guilty) but the prosecution was undone by careless police work. What you have to overlook to find Robin Bain guilty is quite prodigious.

The interesting thing will be to watch the way the media handles the questions of compensation. I think the difference in the burden of proof between a failure to convict and a guilty verdict might be quite a hard sell.

  • Speaker: Copyright Must Change,

Okay, so I'm the only person I know who thinks Deastro is the future. I've bought every scrap of his work that has turned up on eMusic.

Now his new album, Moondagger , the first with a full band, is out. It's on eMusic, but not available to people in New Zealand.

It's not on iTunes NZ either.

So I find the label, Ghostly, then find their online store. I create an account, plod through the steps to buy the download -- and then the site does a really dumb thing. Rather than giving me a download link after I've paid for the album, it sends an email with the download link in it.

Surprise, surprise: the email hasn't arrived. They actually seem to be aware that their fulfillment emails are getting spam-filtered, but they seem to insist on doing it that way.

I've emailed their service address, but I'm betting that by the time they get back to me it'll be too late. Because the download links generated by sales expire after 24 hours.

Is this some kind of Stupid Contest?

I've now got several album tracks off Hype Machine and am looking for a torrent. At least those things work .
