  • Southerly: Tower Insurance Have Some Bad…, in reply to Sacha,

I don't know about that I do know but it has been reported in the papers that my Ecan rates are going to rise by 33% thanks to the fall in values in Christchurch
That is nothing of course as we are going to pay extra through insurence premiums thanks to the real cost of quakes

This sounds so bad anyway you care to look at it
Firstly, do not panic, then complain, complain and use your contacts, there has to be a way through this mess and there will be

Insurance, I have always regarded it as a gamble, a bet but one that pays out if I lose. With hindsight, choosing your company is important, from memory the Consumer magazine gave good ratings to the ones set up for people in specific occupations, certainly my one has been good but then I am not in a city that's been munted

Any facts to back that up Sacha because it sounds close to corruption, if true

Rather than looking at what is wrong with the NZ system (and there is plenty) a good look and some serious time spent discussing the Finnish set up might be helpful in breaking the present cycle of locking up more and more of our citizens

I would suggest that diversion has lowered present jail numbers or rather slowed it as in my experience, criminals or rather people who break laws (including ones they don't agree with) are slow learners, they just don't see the connection with them breaking the laws and the consequences of that behaviour
Mr Bryant being a classic case, he knew very well what would happen if he broke the law but he continued to deal
The law may be stupid but breaking it is not a good way to get it changed unless maybe you can get a big section of the community to break it, proving that the "law is an ass" but I doubt if that is going to work with dealing in drugs.
As pointed out above if you want to do that buy a pub or a dairy

It always seems to me that those with the most to say, on these matters, are those who have not sat in Court and listened to the facts presented
    Well it is easier

  • Hard News: Three months after, in reply to Islander,

As above, it's hard to know what to say other than be strong and lots of love
Although when I checked my two sisters I did say "get the f*** out of there, come and live with me"
They being a little more realistic than me declined, they going to tough it out

Islander, I see you are this side of the hill, how about a mid island meeting of the PA readers, I am always so envious of the other PA gatherings, we could arrange one for those of us close to the 45 parallel

Just wondering if I am the last to hear of this but I have been in contact with some European exchange students and they have a system where everyone is ranked out of ten (not quite sure how the ranking is done but they all knew their ranking) and you cannot date anyone who is more than 2 below or above from your ranking

Madness, and as for an age difference, twelve months was the max, I asked about someone my age and they would allow 4-5 years anything else was eeck
How about their parents? All were within their (the students) self-imposed rules

Is this common in NZ, anybody else heard of such a thing?
I have never been comftable with noticable differences in power, status or age between couples so I guess this could help but but

Russell, when was the last time a couple of underage teenagers went through the courts for underage sex, I know it is still on the books but I am not aware of it happening in my neigbourhood
The court action I mean, I am pretty sure human nature hasn't changed since I was an underage teen although there is always the hope as a parent

  • Hard News: Bishop Brian: It's worse than…, in reply to Christopher Dempsey,

It would seem to me that firstly the SA were divided on their postion in1986 , they have apologised for that and wish to build bridges
I am not sure just what else you want but I for one am happy to give to them as I have a gut feeling that if I was in the gutter they of all people would be prepared to reach down
