  • Sacha, in reply to Ian Dalziel,

Apparently MBIE was cc-ed on the letter. Standard govt practice would have got it to both his and the Building Minister's attention. Just like your Council should have had better internal risk management/escalation in place.

  • Lilith __,

All jokes about consenting adults aside, it’s great to see offers of help for the CCC from building-consent specialists in other parts of the country.

That is exactly right Marrryatt is used as a puppet and he uses others as he pleases. The galling thing is, no matter how detrimental this all is for us living and working down here ,they will end up with a charming life as their pensions will be guaranteed.

I guess people no longer mention CCs on letters any more then.

  • Ian Dalziel,

    The City Gerry Built
Gerry Brownlee’s tame rebuild crew, SCIRT along with Downer – so faithfully rebuilt the dip in the river leg of Fitzgerald Ave that it flooded worse than ever yesterday.
I wonder who signed off the consent on that plan?
Gerry will probably witter on about ‘once in a generation weather events’ but they were supposed to be rebuilding for future generations, not for it to be unfit for purpose within 6 months of reopening.
    Please explain Minister?

    A Gerry-built city?

Hope all here are dry and laying in supplies for the next few days: MetService now has a "high confidence" of snow. We have all had flu for the last week, and puppies -- vibrant little beasts now. Staggering to the surface in time to bring in some firewood!

Good news: Lianne Dalziel is running for Mayor.

    fb post 19 June 2013

Well it's official! A little sooner than expected. It's been a huge decision. People have told me they are looking for effective and inclusive leadership, someone who can build a team around the council table - no A team or B team just one team - and someone who can work with central govt.

  • Gudrun Gisela,

While we wait for snow of biblical proportions, Chris Grimshaw whipped up the following poem.

As I sit upon this chair
    a fag-end in my hand
I feel the South wind bite the air
as it sweeps from southern lands
and yet the clouds in the sky
    are rolling from the East
    A storm is coming, I can't deny:
    Jack Frost's unleashed his Beast.
The biggest snow in thirty years,
at least that's what they say
I hope the forecast's in arrears
and it doesn't come this way.
For while I like the thought of snow
    so white upon the ground
the real thing makes the days so slow
and dry wood must be found.
I have my jacket and my spade
    my gloves and gumboots white
    for preparation must be made:
    The storm could break tonight.
I sit here as my fingers freeze.
    A portent of bad weather.
A snowstorm is behind this breeze
and Jack Frost's lost his tether.

  • Chris Waugh,

Shhhh…. nobody tell Winston Peters. This article says Christchurch Airport is going to have signage in Chinese, Korean and Japanese as well as English. This is to match changes in Christchurch’s and the South Island’s tourism environment. It also says that 81% of international visitors to the South Island enter NZ through Christchurch, that although numbers of South Korean and Japanese visitors are stable, last year there were 80,000 visits to Christchurch by Chinese tourists, a 20% increase on the year before, and that apart from the signage, the Airport is going to be encouraging its staff to learn foreign languages and that it can already provide services in 19 languages.

All I can say is, good on ya, Christchurch. 加油! (jiāyóu, lit. “add oil”, means go! kia kaha! similar expressions of support. Also means put petrol in your car).

Oh, before I forget… I assume there’s an English-language report about this around somewhere, presumably in the Press. The article attributes NZ Chinese-language media, but in my experience they often get their reports from the English-language media.

And another ETA: Hope you're all warm and safe down there.

Not surprised at this. Wont tell Winnie he can get details from his research team sooner or later i am sure. Anyway those Chinese tourist better hurry up to take a snap of the town hall because if Gerry has his way it will be down in no time. He seems pretty keen on it.
