  • Chris Waugh,

Jackson, I think Geoff's idea of an NZ cinema theme should get the priority, but I'd happily scrape together a few photos when I get back to Beijing next week.

    Nora,

A harsh brew – tannin overload.

That's what gets me going in the morning, especially in the summer when coffee makes me feel like spontaneously combusting.

Quite happy for you to go first, Chris,

Jackson; should I still think of doing a theme on NZ cinemas sometime? Happy to do so–maybe in a couple of weeks, after teaching has settled into a rhythm. My http://cinemasofnz.info site is getting rather large.

Hi Geoff. Did you get my email a week or so back? Yes, still keen for that when you can. Just when suits.

Same for you Chris. We're not going anywhere.

  • Lilith __, in reply to Chris Waugh,

On hazy days I’ve seen beams of light focussing where the top of the tower will be. Not sure if they’re going to boil water to run a steam turbine or create some kind of chimney effect.

    Or...brew some tea ;-)

Jackson; never did get your email, I wonder where undelivered emails end up--in some great Lost Letter Office in the sky?

I could make a start at the end of this week or early next week, if it suits. If so, let me know what I should do.

What becomes of the broken data?

I wonder where undelivered emails end up

    little rogue packets
    looking for a purpose
    or perhaps cut up
    into spam messages
    alt returned to sender...

That works incredibly well Jos. Best use of an animated gif I’ve seen in a long time.

<3 The Veils. Also Jos’ gif. Very nice for a wintry day!

    Edit: Veils King-hit

This be mine. Bit sad, but love the starkness of this performance.

Those streaks of light are people rushing off to the rugby. No tripod, make do with wooden railing.

You should have seen the ones I didn't get! I was taking 15sec exposures but they take that time again for the camera to process. And I took a lot of shots of no lightning. :-)

  • Hebe, in reply to Lilith __,

Awe-some pictures Lilith. I hoped you or Gudrun would be handy with a camera -- I was busy cooking. It was incredible: for us nearly an hour of huge sheet lightning flashes every three or four minutes that lit up the sky like massive fireworks. Then huge rain drops and then lumps of ice, then over.

Cor blimey, Lilith, many stabs [of light] in the dark!!! Fab pix! And also love the pix of the queer skies - unstable weather indeed.

  • Rob Stowell,

    Great photos!
And wasn’t it a show- started with yellow-orange low sun under the clouds, went a bit bruised, the light was lovely, then the clouds took on a distinct purplish tinge, billowing
    And- cra-ack!~ it was on!
