  • Hebe,

Anyone else noticed that National's billboard slogan "For a brighter future" could easily become with a splat or two "For a righter future"? Killer copywriting.

I saw one last week (out Halswell way) that said "For a blighted future". Gone the next day, though!

    Just for laughs...

According to the Herald, quoting a candidate is now a "dirty tricks campaign".

Allegations of a dirty tricks campaign against ACT's Epsom candidate John Banks are rife and the blame is being laid at Labour's feet.

Pamphlets are circling highlighting past comments made by Mr Banks, including anti-homosexuality and racist ideas.

It's an ACT thang - 'how durst thou mock the differently abled'. Since Brash's return it's pretty much the house style.

  • Sofie Bribiesca,

Speaking of absences. In driving around and then through Eden/Epsom yesterday, my man commented that he hadn't seen any billboards bar 1 for John Banks. Concerted effort or what?

    Just for laughs II...
The Press reports that the election billboard vandalism
    season has begun...
I wouldn't be messing with the Labour hoardings in Chchch as it appears Brendon Burns lives up to his incendiary name, and carries the makings of a molotov cocktail in his car!

Christchurch Central Labour MP Brendon Burns said he had not heard of any damage to his campaign hoardings, but was always prepared.
"I keep a bottle of meths and a rag in my boot.
I've taken a few moustaches off my face over the years."

    Hair-razing stuff indeed...

It's like the frat boy scene in Borat - the title character didn't slander the frat boys, they slandered themselves.

Isn't the issue there more about misrepresenting the recency of his quotes? The man's opponents don't need to resort to that to see the back of him for one last time.

The great irony there is that Banks was the beneficiary of a really dirty leaflet campaign run by his own people (with the rather shameful connivance of the NBR) before he was defeated for the mayoralty by Dick Hubbard.

At least Banks actually said the things in the new leaflet. Even if, as Sacha notes, it's misleading as to when he actually said them.

    Okay...
Looked up the primary source (forgive me for being reluctant to trawl through WhaleOil and Kiwiblog).

    Note to self:
Never, ever, ever, assume that the Herald has their facts straight. (When will I learn??)

    Note to Levi Joule:
Fuck you. You've turned a small opportunity to remind people of Banks' racist comments into a medium-sized opportunity for people to see Labour as dishonest. You're an idiot.

I note the Herald's Talking Heads piece with Roger Shepherd (Flying Nun) and Roger Langston (Garage mag) today mentions some band called the Tall Dwarves!!
30 years and they still can't get the Tall Dwarfs name right...
Interesting listening though, the years just drop away...
