  • Kyle Matthews,

Except in Public Health research, where Otago in Wellington competes with Massey in Wellington.

Well research isn't fixed in place and so is a nationwide competition. Otago competes largely with Auckland for medical research funding.

  • TracyMac,

Somewhat OT: but how about some investment in a decent pop music venue or doing SOMETHING about the acoustics in the Vector Arena. The Massive were loudish last night, but the shitty distortion in the upper registers was horrible.

Also, the fact that the tools behind me did not STFU throughout the entire concert, even when I asked - and the fact that they were able to carry on an extremely audible conversation at all (can we discuss Martina Topley-Bird's relationship with Tricky AFTER the concert?!) - did not really enhance my listening pleasure.

A shame, because the crowd was good, but I was much more "immersed" in the sound in Canberra's wee venue last week, even though it was quieter. Also, people weren't yapping loudly the entire time, which helped.

I gather there is an acoustic fix for it, but no one wants to spend the money. Bah.

I thought they were a mixed bag last night, and the loud, shitty sound didn't help. Still - 'Angel' and 'Karmacoma' ...

The only 'Maori' known to be setting up farm ventures (supposedly on behalf of Arab Enirates clients) are a group, run by an Australian con-man who has given himself a Maori name, trying to buy dairy farms in Southland...all attempted purchases to date have fallen through (because no deposits of money have been forthcoming.)

From what I linked to earlier.

UBNZ's directors include Sir Ngatata Love, former head of the Maori Development Ministry Te Puni Kokiri, and Aucklander May Wang, an 80 per cent shareholder.

    So, who is this guy?

  • 3410,

    From Wikipedia:

Professor Sir Ralph Herberley "Ngatata" Love, GNZM, QSO, JP, (born September 7, 1937) is a New Zealand Treaty of Waitangi negotiator, academic and Māori leader.

Love is a Professor of Business Development at Victoria University of Wellington's Victoria Management School.

Love was awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2009 for services to Māori.

  • Sofie Bribiesca,

Thanks 3 4 , it will be an interesting takeover if indeed it gets through, even if it is Fonterra that are the only ones that have expressed concern. Interesting also that Natural Dairy holdings was previously a supply company for the mining industry. Timing eh?

Ngatata Love has NOTHING to do with the Southland frauds (or, non-settlements.). I despise Maori who take 'the Queen's honours' but he is a legit rakatira.Check out Australian Shane Wenzil (who is a convicted fraudster) a.k.a "Tane Rakau'- slimey wee shit-

Oh no,(realise that) he was just mentioned yesterday in the herald re this latest bid with Natural Dairy Holdings, the bid for the Crafar Family Farms.

  • Islander,

O, 3410? I respect your posts, but you should make it quite clear that you are *not* implicating Ralph Ngatata Love with any kind of involvement with the Southland dairy buisness 'scam': otherwise, you're coming perilously close to libel.

Note: as far as I know, there is no connection between May Wang's machinations, and those of Shane Wenzil.

Note also: when will really silly pakeha (small 'p' as a sign of contempt) realise being 'given' the 'name' 'Tane Rakau' is a signifier of less than whole-hearted adoption?)

  • Islander,

Er, Sof' - RN Love is chair/director /board member of quite a lot of stuff. But who cares here? He's not in Kai Tahu's face...

Incidentally, the clip with the singing and all had to do with *aquaculture* fees - of which a minor amount (comparatively!) went to Kai Tahu.

"Ka Iwi of te Tau Ihu" are non -Ngai Tahu Whanui ( and we think they've got their name wrong - where to you put the anchor out? Thasss right! The bow-

Rakiura - Te puka a te waka a Maui-)

On the contrary. The posted info indicates that Sir Ngatata appears to be an exceedingly respectable gent.

I think, perhaps, I misunderstood Sofie's post. If so, I apologise.

No worries 3410 - he's not from my lot (but I am aware of the litigious nature of some of the others-)
and putting "Ngatata" in quotes was stupid.

You may be right. It might be written like that to indicate the given name that a person uses if it is not their first given name, but if you feel that it should changed (to, perhaps: "Professor Sir Ralph Herberley Ngatata Love (known as Sir Ngatata)") then you can change it, if you like. :)

I wish they were more informative with these articles, but with this, yet another tie does suggest that Southland beckons
Sounds fishy, which brings me around to oysters,:)

    Hey Islander,

.Incidentally, the clip with the singing and all had to do with *aquaculture* fees - of which a minor amount (comparatively!) went to Kai Tahu.

I did think it seemed modest, but it sounded great to see such agreement so wide spread.

I was wondering what it was about with the Herald mentioning Ngatata. I knew it was nowt to do with South.

  • Islander,

He's known within Maoridom as Ralph Ngatata Love. And, within the print media, as such, for many years. Never as, 'Ngatata Love.' I used the form'Ngatata Love' to actually emphasize the fact that Sofie's quote about 'Sir Ngatata Love' was -wrong-

Yep, they've (UBNZ) been 'eyeing' Southland, but the only gesturers (wouldnt call 'em players) have been Wenzil&co-

Oh please dont mention oysters so often Sofie! I've only had a 2 dozen so far this year, and feel consequently weak & depleted...

O, I'm not sure which thread this should go into but- McCully is now saying the WRC is *too expensive* for us (ANZ) to hold, and will probably run at a $40MILLION LOSS-

right.OK, he says 'ever again' but if he was being honest-

this country has been totally shafted by the RWC org and connsenting pollies-
