  • Adan Daroski,

    Hey David Hood
I've checked the video link you posted on using Inkscape for making logos.
It helped me in updating my designing skill.
    Thanks for the link.

  • DeepRed,

Want a simple yet effective logo for Greater Auckland the way things are going?

  • David Hood,

As a coda to this thread, I was looking a my Flickr photo stats today, and saw that my protest logo (much earlier in the tread) had been found via a google search for:
    city of sails auckland logo
as Flickr will show the refers for visits if you have a pro account.
Repeating the google search myself, I found that my protest logo ranks number 6 in the web search category, only one below the official Auckland City Council site.
    This pleases me inordinately.

  • Sam F,

Or there's this, from Askew1's site as Russ linked on Friday...

  • Lyndon Hood,

It looked like David was having fun so I thought I'd play too.

  • Sam F,

And we have a winner... IMO, it looks like something from about 1980, but hopefully the professionals will develop it further and bring it up to date a bit.

Dare I ask what everyone else thinks?

  • Scott A,

    Everyone hates logos...

...but I like that one. Simple, striking, easily replicated. Given time it'll build the necessary mental association with the city.

And it doesn't have that appearance of being designed to be 'modern' and 'dynamic,' and that instantly sets it apart.

  • Sarah Horth,

I don't mind the winner, it looks OK. Which is much better than 'yuck'.

I quite liked Weston Frizzell's logo:

  • Sofie Bribiesca,

I find it hard to like anything about this development of the Super(cilious) City. That is just me though. Glad some people like it.
    Similar?
    Unfair?
As an aside, does anyone know why the Far North District Council, has a Transition Agency?Water Problems? John Carter?

  • Graeme Edgeler,

    Similar?

Well, given the article doesn't have the both logos to compare, and the logos on the website of the Auckland Regional Parks look nothing like it, I don't see how the work similar applies yet.

  • Sofie Bribiesca,

Some rangers still wore shirts with the logo on, although it was not included on new shirts, he said. It is also used by the harbourmaster.

Had a look myself but can't find a harbourmaster one either, but it does suggest it's an oldie, perhaps considered a goodie. I do like the Frizzell, Weston one but can't help feel if they got anywhere, Dick, would have to step aside.
Now on reading, I see Otis couldn't enter because of his dad.

That's where the one Sarah Horth links to fits better IMO, it is edgier and I do like their personal feeling behind their work. Inclusive definitely.
