  • Tom Ackroyd, in reply to James Butler,

I forensically expunge all Rutter from my playlists.

Oh holy shit and goddamn, had I forgotten about that song! And its crazed gloriousness! Also, I am totally wearing suspenders and a tie with no shirt to the next PAS gathering.

ETA Oh no, hang on, I'm a girl. That might be a bit much even for you people.

  • Danielle, in reply to Roger Lacey,

Hang on a minute mate. I encourage you, in the spirit of revisiting old hatreds, to put on headphones and concentrate on the bassline of 'Love To Love You Baby'. And then keel over weakly, because it is so good that it may cause all the bones in your body to suddenly liquefy.

I also have a bone to pick with anything that takes it itself remotely seriously. From the appalling Creed through to the faux serious cred of that Tool and NiN crap.

    Ah yes. Tool.

What the hell is that bollocks about?

  • Dean Papa,

I'm fairly sure I heard that Promises song just a couple of days ago, on sky sports, either the end credits for the cricket or the rugby ...

Well, you see, if you were a boy you'd never have forgotten that video in the first place.

  • Joe Wylie, in reply to Danielle,

my husband has a theory that Ian Curtis sounds like Jim Morrison but no one will admit the influence because, y'know, it's Jim Morrison. Heh.

He sounded hell of a like Jim Morrison. The only mystery for me was whether it was deliberate. Certainly he sounded much more like The Lizard King /Mr Mojo than this Robyn Hitchcock attempt at a Doors pisstake.

I'm pretty sure that the main similarity is that they both sing in the natural baritone register, which hardly any rock singer does. Nick Cave and Johnny Cash being the other ones I can think of.

Bill Callahan? Just found this cover. I'm lovin' it, but YMMV.

That song does, however, have the distinction of being the one Kanye West track in history which does not namecheck Louis Vuitton, but rather Dior. So there's that. :)

  • Marcus Turner,

I suppose I like to think of myself as eclectic in my tastes. (Maybe everyone says that.) This piece, however, is pretty hard work. I challenge you to listen to it all the way through.

    Anything by Kenny effing G

Verily. Expressing disdain helped me lose a job with a manager who worshipped at Kenny's spa pool of love. Worth it.
