Would a Denheath custard square do instead? Or one of the delicacies from the French bakery in Waimairi Road?

  • Gudrun Gisela, in reply to Hebe,

French Bakery has upset me long time ago when i found a piece of glass from a broken bottle in my custard square (it reminded me of the original).

Anyway perhaps a good thing as we are urged to cut down on sugar and wot nots.
Looking at photos is enough these days.

That sounds disgusting. I haven't had any time for the French Bakery for years and years. The products are industrial. The Waimari Road bakery is called the Village Bakehouse http://www.villagebakehouse.co.nz/Pastries.htm
It is the best European bakery I have found in NZ.

Two freshly peeled lychees in the bottom of each glass adds to the deliciousness :)

On the subject of lychees.... It says lychee beer, but it's not alcoholic, and it actually turned out to be a pleasant surprise (i.e. previous accidental experience of 'fruit beers' in Beijing was of the "don't ever make that mistake again variety).

Now, must get on with trying to make hot cross buns with ingredients that maybe aren't quite exactly what the recipe says, but are hopefully close enough...

For a South African Freedom Day gathering I was invited to, I sculpted a bread lion in a cage. As we snacked on the cage the lion became free. Then we ate the lion.

Wow! That is all sorts of awesome. You must be a very patient person. I mean in the making, more than the eating.

I just have to share this with you all. Now, I'm not a great fan of fruit cakes/xmas cakes in general. But this one isn't really a cake. It's more of a celebration of nuts and fruit, really.
