Might have to start a collection of colonnade captures. The vanishing point is magnificent.

In this shot , I am literally vanishing at that point.

  • andrew r,

Nice pics jackson. I like how you get really strong depth of field and super sharp throughout. Is it a pro camera you took em with ?

    Caution Horses!

George Street, to find an old
area with a coupla horses tied up outside
    a classic Aussie pub, magical… (circa 1979)

The NSW Mounted Police? This was more in Surrey Hills though I think on Baptist Street?

    The NSW Mounted Police?

Nah, they looked like swagman (or Pack horse bagman) type horses, blanket rolls and all the rustic gear, dogs tied up nearby...

...and I never got used to seeing police with guns, though it added a certain frisson to postering runs...

Colonnade-athon. You might get the impression I was following photographers round town and shooting over their shoulders. Not too far from the truth.

    vanishing at that point

    Shot Sofie.

It’s a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ18 compact. Or, ’the family camera’. Guess having Leica make your lenses counts for something. Not bad for $399 duty free.

    We were travelling light.

Ok, this might be the last. Well, unless I start scanning that is.

I’m loving all the colonnades, arcades, cloisters, etc etc.

Have ransacked my archive and can offer this, the interior of the Edwin Fox , a historic vessel that carried immigrants to NZ from England in the 1870s. It’s in its own museum in Picton which is well worth a visit.

(drunken angle from having to prop the camera on a sawhorse on the non-level floor!)

Ok if we’re doing trains, here’s one. The Weka Pass Railway, which runs steam-train excursions twice a month from Waipara. It’s great fun, particularly if you are accompanied by anklebiters. There’s an open car at the back if you can handle the steam and smut. ;-)

    Sheep have right-of-way.

My Dad likes Colonnades too.I think this was taken in Argentina or could've been Chile, or Venezuela or Columbia or..... somewhere in South America.

Have some photos of a steam train going up to Arthur’s Pass somewhere. But negatives, so the train meme might require some planning. Will do it at some stage though, as love the trains.
