I'm elated, angry, and saddened all at once. I feel like a traitor to myself both ways and back again. Happy that the film will stay. Unhappy about everything else. Is there a word for this?
:-/

I'm with ya there, Petra. Me too. Exactly.
-
So part of the deal is Jackson and Warners produce promotional material for NZ.
I have every confidence he'll do much better than Luhrmann who did much the same off the back of Australia and produced complete crap.

At what page did I say this would happen? ;-)
-
Just everyone be happy Key decided it would be better to be the guy that saved the Hobbit, rather than the guy who screwed over the Unions.
-
And page 50, too. Seems fitting to let this discussion slip away now ... :-)
-
Jonathan - you think this is the end of it?
-
So....no money to pay teachers more but money for Warner Bros. I guess my profession that does more for this country than making movies does doesn't count. Teaching's not sexy but making movies is.
-
And those naughty teachers are unionised.

Double DVD, Vincent-Ward & Jackson do one movie each. the subject is one sword.
Jackson on the Von Tempsky Sword & Vincent-Ward on the Tokuwaru Sword. -
Me too, Petra. Glad for all the people who get work out of it, though. Sort of glad for the people who have expressed support for MEAA(NZ)Inc, who have just dodged a bullet, to a large extent. I think they were wrong, but many of them are friends, so...

If this legislation is pushed through in a day, CERRA-style, I'll reserve my right not to be happy at all, thanks.
-
Tony Parker. I sympathize with all of you along with Radiographers. You are all sexy in my book and don't give up the good fight. Remember to vote for those that understand. Keep believing, but I am really sorry for all of you.

John Key's law -
Having The Hobbit made here will give the economy a good push and that's not a bad thing in 2010.
Labour Relations is another wider issue now,our average salary has been way to low for decades and yet our Unions have very little buy-in.
-
Thanks Sophie. Makes me a bit angry that's all.
-
I think in the wake of this, radiographers and teachers should both be able to ask some very clear questions about the Governments earlier claims to have no spare money.
-
Pretty impressive press conference, actually, and he resisted the urge to put the boot in. Good on ya John.
Cue the left wing outrage.
I am very happy that the NZ film industry still has a future. I hope we can soon see more film projects tabled to follow The Hobbit. I hope all involved do a fantastic job and restore confidence in the industry.
Thanks very much for the informative posts and threads, Russell.
Ciao folks.

I believe the usual one is "compromise".
-
Is this the moment that ANZ's status in the world changes forever? Keep going back to this article, & feeling a bit sick: Lawyer condemns possible law change for Hobbit: http://tinyurl.com/27fguro.

Fucked off with the whole thing is my reaction.
There is no increase in funds for the Arts bodies - but Nats/Nacts have never been interested in those except if it has been/is a throroughly capitalist structure. -
Cant access that url Marian (you are the Marian arnt you?)

Teaching also doesn't bring in hundreds of millions in foreign spending. The bottom line is that the government are spending US$10M to keep that spending here (the US$15M tax breaks don't really cost them anything as that tax money would have been gone if the production left anyway).

Autoschadenfreude
Definitely not: Joy at other people's car breakdowns. I suggest Selbstschadenfreude, but I'm only a first year german dropout.
