  • Alistair McBride,

Hey I think George used the wrong metaphor about IW. "dug up" should be "pulled out of the flights of imaginative fancy"

I've been reading economic opinion columns lately (Bernard Hickey, Gareth Morgan) and whatever the merits of their columns, the discussions underneath look eerily like this blog.

    David, YOU are the genius.

Nothing's new. I learnt that equation when I was in school anyway. That Albert, he was always copying things.

I always thought Einstein that what you did when ordering one beer......maybe he did end up bitter, pale, and twist-topped.

  • Russell Brown,

Everyone knows that mc^2 is way better than E. This is political correctness gone mad.

I've never tried mc^2, but if it's better than E then I'm definitely up for it.

Could you mail me some if I sent you the money? Customs are totally slack here.

  • Jolisa,

Don't believe the hype, Russell. Mc^2 is just a regular Big Mac, dried, pulverized, and pressed into pill form. Hence the name. Stick with the good stuff. (Besides, by the time any residual mad cow disease kicks in, the party's long over).

    Deepthinker (Papatoetoe)

I for one applaud the original equation. Equals means the same as. No special privileges for E or mc. We're all Kiwis, after all. If we're going to let foreigners in, surely this Mr Einstein is at least as deserving of a New Zealand passport as that Zaoui fellow?

  • Bart Janssen,

Don't even think about trying it Russell, once you're hooked you'll end up needing more and more to get just a little bit higher and then world outside will start to rush by you and worst of all your arse will start to weigh more than the whole universe.

What kind of idiot uses letters to do adding up with???

I presume he's Roman. ANd I've just twigged, all along I've been reading this as about Brian Epstein. Man, he was clever.

Energy to burn as they say.

What a post, David. Witty, and a cause of wit in others it would seem. This thread is a joy to read.

It is a widely known fact that E=mc^2 was the planned third part of a series of films on energy beginning with the Battleship Potemkin and October ! The film was never made because Einstein defected to California and American Studios wanted different explosions.

When will National fix this abomination? Labour had nine years, and they didn't do a thing. It's a total disgrace. I don't know if John Key is quite the right man for this, though. I think it's up to Sir Roger, fine, upstanding example of a man that he is, to free us from this arbitrary regulation. We should leave matters of mass and energy for the market to decide, rather than being constrained by the nonsense produced by some fourth-rate government bureaucrat. Did this Einstein fellow ever do anything worthwhile with his life, or did he just sponge off the poor, long-suffering taxpayer for the duration of his career? People like that make me sick, and the sooner Rodney, bless him, culls the waste from our system, the better.

Matthew, that was far too well punctuated. I don't see a comma out of place. ;)

I feel as though we're missing a key Your Views sub-genre: the ones who blame any given problem on solo mothers.

Great, so now the Government is publishing recreational drug recipes for all those bludging stoners to do with as they please. Mark my words, those beneficiary mums who just breed to get their hands on my tax dollars will be queing up at the pharmacy to buy all the m and c^2 they can to give to their loser gang boyfriends.

Danielle, some of the YV contributors do actually know how to spell, and use punctuation. The problem with this thread is that the majority of "contributors" have language skills that are more familiar to professors of English :P

  • David Haywood,

Totally impressed by the posts on this thread. I've been throwing-up sick for the last five days, and reading this has provided some very therapeutic laughs.

Mind you, a couple of them ( Robyn Gallagher and Stephen Judd spring to mind) could almost be described as frighteningly good.

In this case, I had just thrown up some chocolate soy icecream. Gazing at the result, I was immediately reminded of the Herald's 'Your Views' pages. Pretty predictable, really.

From Your Views in real life, on an article about Christian Bale losing his plot on the set of the latest Terminator movie:

I'm sorry but as an former crew man myself, Christian Bale was totally over-reacting and was clearly behaving the pre-madonna.

That was a genius piece of spelling right there.

I am shocked and disappointed at some of the intolerant and disrespectful comments in this thread.

Just because Einstein's brain worked a bit differently, it is no excuse for the rest of us to join the oppression of the disabling society. He may have had autism or dyspraxia and that is why he chose to express himself in numbers and letters.

We should remember Einstein for what he was - a bright spark in the diversity of humanity.
