"attention-seeking slut" hate mail
As I say, women dress for women - and that's who mostly manages the attention economy, the 'community standards' of acceptable dress and behaviour such as they are.
I suppose you could say the clerics are shouldering their part of that particular burden. Most of us blokes just spectate from the sidelines (and to think, it's been privileged in much feminist theory as more active).
Now about that re-run..

Now about that re-run..
July? August?
Clearly, we need a TLA to go with APBs here. Now, what would the TLA for Attention-Seeking Slut be...
I love you guys, you're so restrained and understated.
-
I did mean to put 'burden' in quotes, just in case the sarcasm is unclear..
(wary after reading the commentary at Te Hand Mirror)

Why do we need a re-run? Clearly the apocalyptic flooding down south has proved the case beyond the faintest shadow of a doubt.
Although a few stranded tourists and inconvenienced farmers is a small price to pay for an abundance of eye candy.
Actually, now I come to think about it....
Um, yes. The matter is still unproven. An exhaustive and rigorous testing regime should be implemented to investigate this matter as thoroughly as possible. Several lengthy re-runs are required, involving as large a sample size as we can muster. As you were, ladies. It's your patriotic duty.
-
It's your patriotic duty.
Well, as long as it's for our freedom. I'm happy to do as I'm told.
NOT! ;) -
Torrential rain in Auckland today. I'm not making any inferences, but it's all there to be worked out for the sensible* observer, as we know from Bjorn Lomborg.
*paranoid

Um. Yes, Moving on...

Feh... Dear God, I made a Google Map for the rain with directions to where the Sodomites, Sapphists and shameless Whores of Babylon live. With all due respect, you've got to work on the aim.

Invercargill does seem a long way from Thorndon

Even though taking the piss out of te Muslims seems to be de-rigour I think we are overlooking the real culprits here...
Senior staffers at the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Only one that I'm aware of. That cleric guy. What was his name? Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi. I think most here try not to conflate the stupid actions or statements of one person with an entire nation and its people. Just sayin'. Otherwise we'd be pretty much doomed ourselves.
'The Dream is Over' ring any bells?

Taking the piss out of pompous clerics surely

I prefer to interpret it as holy encouragement for the ladies. The divine equivalent of a pearl necklace, if you will.

Paula Bennet?

As you were, ladies.
I presume you were ladies...
Sorry, overexposure to Goons at an impressionable age.

pearl necklace
Euphemism alert! You may not be aware what that seemingly-innocent statement CAN mean......
-
Or are you referring to this?
The Politics of God -
Sorry Emma...

Normal people don't do that sort of crap, etc.

Perhaps I should google it?

I cannot tell you how many different ways I've been reduced to tears today. Well, okay, obviously I could, and it's clearly 'two', but still...
I wrote a little something extra in a more personal vein, as to why the negative comments from a feminist perspective are so upsetting to me. It's self-indulgent but perhaps adds a little more to a picture that's mostly out in public anyway.
-
Wrote a comment for the Hand Mirror then scrapped it, but I'm feeling Emma's pain a bit here.
I don't see exactly how Boobquake has veered away from its original intentions, or why it can't be regarded as a pointed political joke when everything says that's exactly what it is.
-
Quite. Aint co-option a bitch

ORLY? I can't be arsed doing a content analysis, but I have a funny feeling various Christians get a damn sight more stick around PAS -- richly deserved, more often than not -- than Muslims.

Where has anyone been doing that? But I guess you've got a point, as far as it goes: After all it was mere months ago the ugly posthumous character assassination of Sophie Eliot at her killer's trial was the tipping point to finally got the "cunt/faggot asked for it" defence off the statute books.

Yes -- the sheer passive-aggression was rather breath-taking. I know from experience that Emma is a big girl, and if you're going to call her a bad feminist you should at least have the ovarian fortitude to come at her straight on.

Really, I couldn't see anywhere that anyone was making statements about Muslims in general. It's the same story as His Holiness's recent troubles -- when a cleric acts in a bad or ridiculous way, we may point that out in a more or less robust fashion.

I certainly wouldn't want for it to be any kind of stand-off between the two sites. They're good people over there, and I know Stargazer. But I think passive-aggressive is perhaps a good characterisation of that discussion. Perhaps it's just a difficult conversation to have.
As for the hate-mail ... when feminists adopt the language of misogynists, it kind of does my head in.

This was my point. That is, up until Steve made his statement. Although I clearly need practice in being a bit more full frontal, and a little less lobotomy.
Craig seems to be a willing tutor. Do you run night classes?
And when I said Sorry Emma above I hope it was clear that it was for all the trouble this seems to have caused. Also wondered a little bit if the responses on this thread might have fuelled the negative reaction. Hopefully not.
