Down in front! 24 Sep RWC2011.

Everyone else seems to be having a year in review theme, so here's ours.

But it was also the year that Ruby came into our lives. She's brought some controversy, and disruption, but most importantly, she's brought inordinate amounts of joy and allconsuming love.

    Tricolor. Sept RWC2011.

Kind of feels like enough time has past to revisit the French flare, eh?

    Thanks for sharing those Jackie.

  • Andrew E,

Indeed, great photos. I haven't seen a photo as cheeky as the first one since, hmm.... possibly Gary Winogrand's shot of the plump old lady outside the rhino enclosure at the zoo.

    Exalted company, but very apt.
For those who like such stuff, 18 further examples of the wonderfully named Mr Winogrand's work.

    Very thorough fare...
Between Murray and Doug it seems that
Ak's main drag is really a Queen's Treat...
(and I don't mean that they're car men...)

  • Lilith __,

Doug: Do people ever mind having you take their picture? Did you ask the guy with the moko, or did he do that spontaneously?

I remember Ans Westra saying if people seemed concerned about her taking pictures, she would just smile innocently and keep walking. It may have helped that she didn’t use an SLR, but a TLR that she looked down into, and many of the people she photographed may not have realised she was taking their picture.

  • Doug Richards, in reply to Lilith __,

Thanks for all the comments and to Jonathan & co for the feature :)
Lilith, for street photography I never ask permission as it’s a candid style of photography. Most people wouldn’t know I’d taken the photo as I have my ‘cloak of invisibility’ on ;-) And people on Queen St are used to seeing tourists with cameras so it’s not usually a problem. But then there is street portraiture, of which the Moko photo is an example. I did ask his permission for obvious reasons – I wouldn’t mess with that guy!

Two recce shots of inner city Auckland. Both locations we used for Sione’s 2. I’m pleased with both of these as photos in their own right.

  • JacksonP,

Hi Simon. I deleted the last attempt, as the car park, as we affectionately call them, didn't do your picture justice.

We have a few hints for uploading in our upload guide, but the grey usually means you need to wait a little longer before refreshing page.

Thanks for posting the photos though, and please keep them coming.
    Cheers.

ETA: PS We are always looking for new people to do guest posts. Drop us a line, if you're keen. ;-)

Thanks. And the first pic is Cross Street - not Fort Street.
