It's a chickpea mountain - kind of a snack food as far as I could see. Extremely popular.

Hi Nora, those last two are inside the Red Fort, one of many glorious buildings in this old Mughal imperial palace; and Gandhi’s last steps – he was assassinated where the stone plinth stands at the end. A very moving sanctuary in the government district of the city.

Can almost smell and hear the vibrancy from these photos.

The (5th?) one with the dolls in plastic wrap is quite disconcerting!

I love your first quote, so true. Last year I was lucky enough to go to Shanghai for three days of intense tourism experience and my senses were so overwhelmed, not only due to the visual excitement but also to the culture shock and language difficulties, the time-lag and lack of sleep. Such a rich experience, I would have lost much of it if I hadn't taken a LOT of photos and scribbles in my journal. I just spent a couple of weeks in Hanoi, I started collecting photos of the incongruous - the hammer&sickle in front of the brand new stock exchange, the same with a pair of doves as a xmas street decoration etc etc after a while I realised what I was collecting were really artifacts of my culture, Vietnam had moved on ....
