  • Lilith __,

Lovely shots, Jack. I particularly dig the cranes with Mt Vic and the Duck & Frog [perfect pub name]. And of course you had to take a night photo of the railway station. :-)

  • Lilith __,

I love Welly. The last *3* times I’ve tried to go there, stuff has happened to stop me going. But I’m determined to break the jinx soon. :-)

We went down in May and got a nice weekend. And where else do you go but to the Sunday market?

There seemed to be a few around town. This one right in front of Te Papa.

  • Jackie Clark,

Oh I love wellington - but then I spent most of my teenaged years there, as a boarder at Marsden, so I have very fond memories. Pics to come.

Ah, I wasn't sure from the angle. Trying to remember where I saw the other one as I was driving round town afterwards.

Welly is my fave, ran away from Rotorua when in 1968 to do a Civil Aviation apprenticeship and lived in the Oriental Bay Hostel, loved every minute!

Great set of captures Jac, you have a great eye and a wonderful way with words. It's a good combination!

We went back often as best daughter was ensconced there.
Here's one of mine taken through a window from the Museum Hotel.

    Is she the famous knitter?

Cheers Jos. Of course the gallery job, like all my early jobs, was on the strength of spending my holidays in your shop breaking glass, and eating chocolate donuts.

Think I might still have that reference somewhere. ;-)

  • Chris Waugh,

Looking East from Kilbernie. Is that East?

Yes, indeed it is. And in that photo or very slightly to the right (it ends just as Rongotai College begins) is most of my fourth form to seventh form years. Memories like, for example, French classes put on hold while a pre-hush kit 737-200 took off. Or the day we had a tsunami drill and had to assemble on one of the fields and then do roll call before we trundled up that little bump to line up again in our classes outside the control tower. Something seemed a bit off with that tsunami drill....

Finding any of my photos of Wellington might take a bit of searching through old bits and pieces, though...

  • Geoff Lealand,

Jackson; re Photo #2 of Mt Vic. We used to live in the second house down from the old monastery, on Hawker Street. It was beginning to slip downhill towards the harbour but obviously hasn't got there yet.

I lived there for 4 years until I returned to Dunedin in November last year. I loved it. I hope to move back in a few years. There seems to be an affinity held by Dunners people for Wellington. Anyway, I had a great view from my flat in Hataitai over Evans Bay.

  • Hebe, in reply to Jos,

Love them. Love Wellington . I lived there for years -- a lot of the time just up the hill from that Oriental Bay picture of the waves. Walked to work most days along the waterfront to Willis St.

Being Welly that will be a hip-apotamus, right?

Where is the pink wall, and the grafitti lane? What was your shop?

  • Jos,

The pink wall is near Moore-Wilson's up Tory St, and the graffiti up off the side of Cuba St next to a large wool shop. When I lived in Wellington more than 30 years ago I worked for Rank Xerox.
