The "knowing" part of this could be easily circumvented by using a simple script to traipse around keeping publicly-available data.

gosh, really? Utterly surprising. On Radio Live, Collins accuses Hager of "using stolen emails for financial gain." More shrugging off. Admits very good friends with Slater.

As a non-aligned citizen who has long been disturbed by abuse of our democratic process by deliberate gerrymandering to gain seats by abuse of proportionality through so called overhang, the bit that needs to be dealt with judicially is the farce that national and Act are separate political parties.
It was bad enough when Brash was moved into ACT straight from the national party, but if that was effected by national party officials and enablers pressuring Rodney Hide by blackmail then claiming that act and national are two separate entities is insupportable.
In that case whoever 'wins' epsom should be considered part of the national share of the party vote in terms of proportionality.
Considered retrospectively that would make every decision of the current government that only had a majority of one, as being not actually legal. Altho of course if the constitutionality of a bill is dependant on the GG's assent rather than a house majority, the whole shebang would end up feeding grubby briefs for decades.I would be content with an electoral commission result which determined the two parties were one and the same this time around.

while we are on the topic of Whaleoil's cash for copy, perhaps during one of his phone hook-ups someone in the media ought to also ask Cameron Slater if he writes all of his sycophantically pro-Israeli posts on Whaleoil, is he getting paid for them by the Israeli government, why exactly is he going to Israel, and who is paying for his trip there?

Well in the case of Fisher's Dotcom book it was rule that journalistic protection didn't apply because it was a book, so potentially.
But if I understand it correctly Hager claims not to know the source - that the information arrived anonymously in the post on a USB flash drive. That's a pretty solid dead end for anyone trying to force information from him.

Agree with much of the sentiment being expressed here. Anyone who doesnt believe that political leaking goes on across the spectrum is being wilfully naive.
But some of the claims being made in this book do appear to be a step or three well beyond your bog-standard 'leaking' in all its sordid glory. And therefore worthy of greater scrutiny, not only in these specific instances but as to whether or not these practices are now a common part of the arsenal of political warfare.
Sadly, I am - in the absence of any proof otherwise - sceptical that this is uncommon.

All through this thread you have been using irrational arguments to divert attention away from the issues. You have resorting to emotion when others are trying to be rational and objective, imo that is the action of a whacker.
I called you out for it you called me troll. I just don't know how I'll get over being reduced to a cliche popular sometime last century but I guess I shall.

As in the evidence that this government has wilfully and continuously distorted the truth about everything they touch, solely for personal gain. There doesn't appear to be an ounce of public spiritedness about any of them and you are an apologist for these people.
If that is 'being a troll' /cliché then I will happily wear the handle but it sure beats living on a website where mostly there is little said of merit & the biggest danger is slipping on the oil of false bonhomie thereby dislocating a forked tongue. -

The suggestion that Anonymous would degrade their reputation by associating with someone like Slater is laughable.

I think this allegation is the one that will have the most legs if pursued - since the public won't stand for it:

The prisoner later attempted suicide".
I know politicos will say other stuff is worse but Joe Public doesn't really care. But playing with people's lives is different.
