Listening to you talking on the wireless, about the phrase nekminnit. I think the phrase is popular because it sums up life so neatly. Make your plans, you fools, because nothing is surer than that a curveball is just round the corner.

Or the reporter's hearing isn't that great - or, given that the details of sewerage systems are not a matter of common discussion in non-munted years, the reporter or Parker or both wasn't familiar with the usage and that contributed to the misuse. It's pretty easy to mispronounce or mishear words when they're in a context you're uncertain of, and "main sewer trunk" is not a common turn of phrase. (I mean, I'd hope the mayor of Christchurch was familiar with its waste disposal systems pre-quake, but.)

Bridging 'munted' and 'occupy' comes news of a 14% payrise for Christchurch City Council's ceo.
Christmas has come early for a controversial Christchurch chief executive whose salary has skyrocketed to more than $500,000.
Christchurch City Council chief executive Tony Marryatt has received a $68,129 pay rise, taking his salary from $470,400 to $538,529 a year, effective from July 1 this year.
...Marryatt's remuneration increase was in line with other city chief executives, Parker said, including Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority chief executive Roger Sutton ($500,000) and Canterbury District Health Board chief executive David Meates ($490,000-$499,000).
...Marryatt's annual salary package has increased 45 per cent during his four years at the council, rising from $370,825 to $538,529.

But I note he still got huge yearly pay rises there as well, the last one being after his contract renewal, just 3 months before he jumped ship to Chchch. What galls me most is that he has had these over the top pay increases here regularly and yet he still tried to get a directorship on one of the council's companies and then it turns out he's coining it as a director of the CCC's new insurance company, (Civic Assurance), which has placed council staff in an invidious position over the decision, while he ostensibly recuses himself from any decisions to do with it, including the recent decision to help bail it out I'd imagine.
You'd think when you are paying some tosser, who still has his home in Hamilton, half a million bucks to run your city, you could demand they don't work for anyone else!I'd also like to know how much the CCC is paying their Auckland law firm for all the advice they must be getting at the moment, seems they must be paying an Israeli PR company as well - I'm expecting early morning bulldozers to appear to destroy these hillside houses to save the citizens from themselves
(just like they did with the St Albans pool)
